Good, you don't treat a customer that way

The Open City employee told the Washington City Paper that disciplinary action was taken and she was terminated. The cafe, however, told the paper she was fired for other reasons.

Johanning tells Yahoo Lifestyle that she doesn’t think the employee should have been fired.

“I don't think she should have been fired, she is young and still in a position to be educated about tolerance. The person I would have fired was the manager. He failed her and he failed me and he failed Open City that day,” Johanning says

As must as I detest Trump that is just bad business mixing politics and work. Could the manager given the worker warning. yeah but then their is the PR aspect. Businesses will typically project impartiality and therefor take decisive action to protect that image.

Agreed, someone should be able to wear a Trump pin without harassment. When you are at work you represent the business, not your own interests.

I don't know about the warning....hard to say. When I was a teenager we undersgood that a customer should not be criticized for displaying a political pin. I would not have even thought of doing such a thing. It's sad that managers have to even clarify that, but maybe that's today's world (showing my age I guess).

There are many questions here.

Was it her first offense and had she previously been warned?
How strong was her criticism?

That's why where I worked discussion of politics was strictly forbidden. That included political attire of any kind.

I agree with the woman wearing the pin. It is the manager who should have been fired. Instead of teaching the girl the proper way to act, the manager was trying to justify her actions.

And what is this business of “not feeling safe” around inanimate objects? The pin made her feel unsafe? WTF does that mean? This is a relatively new phenomenon. What did the waitress think would happen to her if she just served the customer like she would any other customer. These days, we always hear about “safe spaces” to shield people from words or attitudes they don’t like. What are they really seeking shelter from? Call me old fashioned, but when someone says things I don’t like, I simply walk away and maybe think poorly of that person. That has served me well my whole life.

She thought being a member of the alphabet soup crowd would protect her.

It didn’t.

Both the manager and employee should have been fired.

Liberals love to mix work and politics such as how they insist on Colin Kaepernick and Megan Rapinoe being able to advertise their leftism by openly disrespecting the flag on the field.
