Yeah, I saw Rambo or someone like that throw a table saw blade at a bad guy in the movies once. Took the entire top of his head clean off.

The man used multiple machetes. There is nothing wrong with limiting the sale or ownership for these particular weapons the same way there is nothing wrong with limiting the sale or ownership of assault rifles. Doing so does not remotely mean anyone is coming for your butter knives either.
But, what about sling blades (some folks call 'em Kaiser blades)?

Hint: you can't ban all sharp objects or lock up every nut case.

Mass stabbers are far worse than mass shooters. One has to get up close and personal (see the white of their eyes) before sticking and hacking away.

Before you know it, we’ll be banning anything sharp: sharp sticks, shish kebab skewers, etc.

Why is that a person might be fine with seeing people get stabbed in a slasher movie but get disgusted when it happen in real life, beyond the first example being fiction?

A law/regulation doesn't need to prove 100% effectiveness in order to be considered. Murder is illegal, people still kill... but it is still illegal and laws used as a framework on how to deal with those criminals.

Most states already have limits in the length and type (gravity, switchblades etc) of knives you can carry. No one is crying... seriously.... whiners.

The difference between both sides of the issue is to what extent the laws should limit... If this killer had used his gun instead of a knife, one could surmise the number of victims would have climbed and the injuries more severe. Many would argue that is justification enough right there.

We are also not talking just about a knife... that's silly.. he didn't go around killing and injuring with a freaken butter knife... so that level of argument is stupid. Not too long ago an individual was shot by police for threatening them with a sword.... no one is crying ban knives.. resulting...
