I am all for getting people out of gasoline powered cars but it is worth noting that Norway is a fossil fuel exporter and it is a huge part of their economy. So their own citizens may be driving electric cars but Norway is still supplying tons of carbon to the rest of the world. So I would be more impressed if they said they are going all EV and they will cease production of fossil fuels.
Fossil fuel powered charging stations coming to Oslo soon.........
Part of this utopian idea that exists involves the total eradication of fossil fuels. I think it's better to have diversified sources of energy.
Has anyone checked on Germany's march in this direction of "clean" energy?
So many people just can not understand the difference in very small countries and how they run their government compared to counties the size of the USA. These countries are also not as industrialize as ours. What works for them will never work for us, even if AOC thinks it will.
Norway is increasingly seen as the envy of the world. It is FIRST place in the world happiness index. It is #5 in median income (U.S. is behind at #8). It has a debt-to-GDP ratio of -90.5 percent. In other words it has a national surplus, not a national debt.
Norway has obviously made a lot of good decisions. Now they are making another good decision by banning the sale of fossil-fuel-powered vehicles by 2025. Not the 2030 plan of Gov. Jay Inslee, which was seen as way too ambitious and radical but 2025.
Can someone please explain to me why we are not following Norway's lead????
They do have plenty of hydroelectricity and are a large oil exporter.
If the USA was small with many places to produce hydroelectricity, we too could pull it off.
One hundred yrs from now our country will be 100% ELECTRIC, SELF DRIVING.
Might as well accept progress. Be the nation in the lead manufacturing them for the world. Developing software. Can't live off coal, oil, early 1900 technology forever.

Nope. There are still ships, airplanes and other things that require motors. Huge motors to function. There are prototypes for airplanes but huge ships are a whole nother game.
Our govt has been making these sorts of directives for awhile. Safety and fuel efficiency didnt happen out of the goodness of the manufacturers' hearts.
Not what I said, also doesn't make it right to force such a decision. Options for EVs are very limited, prices, safety, reliability, and even data security are all issues that people need more options on before we go jamming a thinly veiled non-decision, decision down their throats.

They got rich off oil ironically enough so they can do cute things like this to try and be relevant.

Probably true, but for now, there is no way we can even think of that. As large as our country is and as many life styles exist there will have to be a lot more technology for this to work here. I often wonder what my grand parents would think of technology as we know it?
