Well hopefully it's not contagious. :-P Pedophilia is uncommon, but not remarkably so; estimates are 1-4% of the population. If you have 100 friends, you probably know 1-4 pedophiles. Those aren't necessarily practicing pedophiles though, just people attracted to youths under age ~14.
Everybody has probably been friends with or worked with pedophiles -- only we never knew it.
I believe it. I knew a professional and his wife very well, sold them many pieces of art that I'd collected, flew the wife several times in my small plane. They lived a block from my home, and their kids were friends with my own. They were busted for horrible sexual misconduct with their own kids and others. It made me sick. I never heard a whisper of it until they were arrested.
