Trump managed to lose almost a billion dollars running a casino, among other things. It didn't take the presidency for him to lose money, he's just an inept businessman who inherited a lot of money and scammed his way to more, although not nearly as much as if he had just put his inheritance into an index fund.
And yes, he promised to release his tax returns, claimed he would do as soon as they were no longer under audit. And then reneged on that promise, like so many of the thousands and thousands of other lies he's told.
Forbes and Bloomberg estimated Trump's wealth - at the high end - to be between $3 and $3.7 billion. Trump said this has cost him $3-5 billion. Sounds to me like he's laying the ground work to admitting he is $2 billion in debt, probably to the Saudis.
True- this is why our presidents should be wealthy men, so that they do not seek office to secure wealth. It is hard to buy off a man who is already very wealthy.
You've obviously never spent much time around the wealthy because there's not a one of them that isn't looking to increase their assets. Not one.
Oh, and yes, they can absolutely be bought off. It will just cost you more than an average slub....

Trump charges government agencies hundreds of thousands of dollars to host meetings at his properties now as well as charges the Secret Service to stay at his hotels, use his elevators, rent his golf carts and maintain a presence at Trump Tower paying higher than anyone ever has. Let's not pretend here.
