What we need is better education for cons to hasten the demise of the denialist movement.

I don't think it matters much anymore, as they are largely being ignored.

Regardless of whether or not you believe in climate change, electric cars are coming. Just in terms of torque alone, they will be able to beat the pants off most conventional gasoline-powered vehicles. Plus they're safer because of the lower center of gravity. Energy is energy. Stations will just add some quick-charging stations and make money that way.

SMOG and air pollution is a hoax also. So is red tide and algae that poisons people.

Honda is the latest automaker investing in what it sees as the next big breakthrough in battery technology—not more advanced lithium-ion, such as solid-state lithium-ion cells—but entirely different battery chemistry.

"Fluoride-ion batteries offer a promising new battery chemistry with up to ten times more energy density than currently available Lithium batteries. Unlike Li-ion batteries, FIBs do not pose a safety risk due to overheating, and obtaining the source materials for FIBs creates considerably less environmental impact than the extraction process for lithium and cobalt."

Of course not. Im pointing out the fallacy some use in arguing the ecological superiority of the EV over the its IC powered counterpart.
The EV in some form has been around since the day of the IC horseless carriages and for a plethora of reasons consumers have overwhelming chosen the IC version and if something organic changes the existing order where the former is preferred over the latter, so be it. But it should come from consumers making their own choices in free market, not politicians doing it by force by way of laws or throwing everyones money at certain tech.

So, you call for the "free market" when it has been protectionism, monopolies (or close), vast tax and lobby schemes, etc. that gave us the ICE car culture we have today???

Frank, this is truly amazing.

Consumers never made the choices. Those choices were dictated by the Big 2 and largely the Big One (GM).

It's not a fallacy to do a parts count on where EV's are headed compared to ICE. Nor is it one to look at the engineers who claim a Model 3 is built for 300K miles (and perhaps more).

A vast number of rooftops in my area have PV on them...and, sure, even making solar cells isn't clean....but compare an average 25MPG ICE vehicle these days with a home-charged EV, in terms of the air pollutants released (let alone national security and other things) and I think the difference will be VAST.

Our species has the special gift of being able to look into the future. But we don't do it often enough. Look at the recent "debates" over incandescent bulbs. Only a caveman wouldn't approve of a 90% savings in energy - and air pollution - using modern technology.

EV's are no different other than it will take a little longer due to the complexity. But remember when LED light bulbs were over $40 each...not too long ago!

If anything we need to give more government subsidies to EV tech (US MADE TECH) because it serves so many purposes...which I don't think need to be spelled out.

Then again, if your preference it to buy EV's and the tech from China, we should keep on doing exactly what we are doing.

The idea is always to fill it up with less fuel...and go further. It's a curve.

We get 44 MPG average on our new sedan, 2X what the former one got. I shouldn't have to work out the math....that if the fleet of the USA does the same, over time, that the air will be much cleaner and it will cost people less AND there can be more money for infrastructure, etc.
