Has there ever been a POTUS who has had this sort of mutiny by cabinet/staff? Loyalty ends when the pay checks stop.
Normally, you decrease the size of gov't by taking away the peons, not the important decision makers.
Don't think that these people who left and weren't replaced were fired to reduce the size of gov't. They either left to protest or they weren't kiss ups.
Speaking of which, Mike Pompeo, the Secretary of Trump once compared Trump to Obama in 2016, but now has been described by a WH insider as the most sycophantic (kiss up) and obsequious (kiss up) people around Trump.

This only helps Trump. Like it or not, us everyday people hate the establishment. We want change. And we hear the establishment so bent out of shape, trying to do something like that we reflexively support Trump thinking he's doing right.

Personally I'd say having to fawn all over dear leader all the time and having to contantly pretend that he's not one giant embarrassment and invent excuses for him, is what's cringeworthy.
