Why does the government have to make every little damned thing so complicated? My long standing pet peeve! Tangles of red tape and regulations. People justifying their jobs perhaps? Thank god this administration is untangling messes like this.

Such veterans were already entitled to such debt forgiveness by law. But about half of the roughly 50,000 disabled veterans who are qualified to have their federal student loan debt forgiven have not received the benefit because of an application process that has proven burdensome. The memo directs the government to develop an “expedited” process

President Donald Trump signed a memo to automatically discharge federal student loan debt for permanently and totally disabled veteranss.
"I have taken executive action to make sure our wounded warriors are not saddled with mountains of student debt," Trump told a crowd the Galt House, vowing to eliminate “every penny” of an average of $30,000 of student loan debt for about 25,000 disabled veterans.

but it didn't increase participation by muchI was very glad to hear this. Obama had tried something a little more halfway, sending letters to everyone who qualified and inviting them to participate. This opt-out for woulded veterans is better. It program also applies to non-veteran disabled folks but I don't think they are being converted to "opt-out" status. Hopefully the publicity will help some of them learn of their eligibility. Definitely greqt news for our wounded veterans.

Excellent news. I'm glad for my taxes to go to helping those who have sacrificed so much for their country.

Trump didnt do anything special for them though, if you had read into the very limited group that is entitled to what Trump talked about...its a VERY small number of people and they already have debt forgiveness of their student loans.

Trump mentioned this because on the surface, it sounds really good.

How is that a victory?

It's something Warren and Sanders would do.

What kind of sick human being could be against helping disabled veterans? If there is any group most deserving of assistance, they would be at the top of my list.

This wonderful thing Trump is doing is simply designed to help him look like a good guy, and, with his number falling, and the economy about to take a dump, he needs this to try to save his butt next election.
