I agree with BeerGeek.....reform is needed. My concern has always been that it be done thoughtfully, such as a tiered system or perhaps extending the age where you can first take full benefits. I'm concerned that reforms if not done thoughtfully will disparately impact lower income folks.
The cut off on how much income is taxed for Social Security needs to be raised. Those making big salaries need to pay their fair share.
The age for full benefits is pretty high already. People doing manual labor are only able to work so long into old age.
He can reverse the tax cuts for the rich and SS and Medicare will be fine.
Actually they won't.....not even close. Fact is medicare costs are well below market and people are living longer. Solution.....increase the amount you pay for medicare (and yes, I get medicare) and increase the age at which you take retirement. The budget will NOT be fixed unless we address entitlements!
If your belief is that all insurance is a Ponzi scheme, then you are entitled to your opinion, but it remains a fact the Social Security was conceived of and remains insurance against the affects of poverty in old age. No private savings plans can fulfill that role (any more than private savings plans can replace medical or liability insurance).
Private savings in addition to social security is always a good and advisable thing.
Even though I will never vote for Trump, I have no problems if they cut all these to zero starting today:
Medicare
Medicaid
Social Security
Food Stamps
Section 8
Then you're wife's or husband's parents will come and live with you for their total support, health and living, probably when you're in your early 40s. the prime years of your working life and while you're still raising kids.
2 totally different thing because although they DO need fixed Trump didn't say it elitist establishment clowns on capitol hill did.
The orange clown puppet does whatever the gop puppetmasters tell him to' .
Remember when trump called for higher taxes on the rich before he passed one of the most regressive tax cuts in history? Or does your maga koolaid let you ignore that?
More worthless scattering of the chicken bones by the left.
