That story clearly illustrates how that young man was indoctrinated and brainwashed in college by liberal professors and radical activists. Most campuses these days are full of anti-American, anti-capitalist, anti-Christian ideology. This is why more college educated adults are liberal, not because they're smarter, but because they're more indoctrinated.

I get you worship at the altar of money but if you look at measures of quality of life rather than just GDP, the democratic socialist countries rank very high. https://www.usnews.com/news/best-cou...-life-rankings
All that I know is this: Pay CEO's more, and shut up. They are the rockstars and everyone else should be thankful they grace everyone else with their genius, while they destroy good companies and leave with the loot.
This is pretty much the mentality of modern day American Capitalism. No, it's not the result of "over-regulation", it's the result of the general mindset of upper level executives.
If the young turn Socialist then the US will only have their own failed politics to blame for the loss of faith. We are going the way of Latin America where the government is run for the benefit a small group of individuals (namely million+billionaires).
I was not familiar with DSA so did check their web site. They do not advocate government ownership of means of production, so that is a falsehood. They advocate cooperative ownership, which sounds like employee-owned.
Collective ownership of the means of production in practice has always meant government ownership. So it is not a falsehood. I think I've reposted this from 'dozerbear' at least 5 times now.
I’m a staff writer at the socialist magazine Jacobin and a member of DSA, and here’s the truth: In the long run, democratic socialists want to end capitalism. Many observers see groups like DSA pushing for policies like Medicare-for-all and decide that we must actually be something like New Deal liberals who are simply confused about the meaning of socialism. That’s not true. Our goal is not to rein in the excesses of capitalism for a few decades at a time — we want to end our society’s subservience to the market.
I do think America's greatness is diminishing but it is the lack of tolerance of all sides. The lack of humanity
I live in the south east and see as many young people who embrace the Republican party as I do those embrace the DEmocrat party -- and they all have the same education.
But so many have no tolerance for anybody that doesn't hold the same values, same opinions, so much time and moey is spent developing these ridiculous theories about why America is not so good -- and it is always the other side that is at fault.
Americans blame the media, Wall Street, Congress....but never blame themselves for tolerating the intolerance (LOL).
If the swamp is swampy it is the American voter who encourages it.
Hurling names and insults and no compromise all for the sake of being on the 'winning' team.
"Today's socialism for younger people means the Canadian health system and the Swedish welfare state," Amenta said.
Essentially "socialism" is little more than a buzzword among these youths. When they say they want "socialism" they're not actually referring to collective ownership of the means of production, or anything like that. All they're referring to is a generous welfare system.

But wait. They have LOTS of Muslim Refugees to cause violent crime, rape, and drain their budgets while taxes just keep going up. Hate speech laws, disarmed, defenseless. Socialist Utopia for sure!

None of the countries from your list are "democratic socialist." They are "social democracies," which is completely different in philosophy. Venezuela is "democratic socialist," or at least it was until Chavez died in 2013, and his successor Maduro turned their elections into a sham.

Some are, some aren't. The leadership knows what 'democratic socialist' means. Anyone who is a dues-paying DSA member likely knows. The masses of useful idiots being dragged along likely don't know.
Why shouldn't they? Every horror story about their future and financial independence had its rooot cause in the abuse of capitalism.
People are worried about healthcare costs bankrupting them. People are worried about the cost of education saddling them with debt for the rest of their adult lives. People are worried about making enough to fund their retirement. People are worried about social safety nets being solvent when they retire.
These are all issues that came about bc the capitalism we all embraced left most of society unprepared and unable to deal with these problems. People like you could have avoided this by mixing a little socialism into your platforms instead of wrongly arguing that things weren't capitalistic enough. Now the fallout is the full on embrace of socialism in the younger generations.
