Vila emigrated from Cuba with his parents in 2004, receiving asylum and a pathway to citizenship. Initially optimistic about a new country where anything seemed possible, he became disillusioned with the American dream after his family lost its home during the Great Recession.
As a teen, he identified as a Libertarian-style Republican and spent hours watching YouTube clips of conservative provocateurs lambasting liberals. He served as a congressional intern for longtime Miami Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Republican, and joined a conservative college group.
But something began to shift during the 2016 election. Donald Trump and the Republican Party's increasingly hostile stance toward immigration alienated Vila, though he agreed with the party on other issues.
Someone who is put off by the "Republican Party's increasingly hostile stance toward immigration" is hardly a socialist. If the Republican party wants to court younger voters, it needs to quit being the party of old white men.
There's a price to pay for espousing xenophobia and fear mongering.
Did you leave out the "illegal" part intentionally when talking about immigration? Further, "xenophobia and fear mongering" are lame word-tracks made up by the Left. Know any others? We find them humorous.
BTW, perpetuating these terms doesn't help your cause.
Why shouldn't they? Every horror story about their future and financial independence had its rooot cause in the abuse of capitalism.
People are worried about healthcare costs bankrupting them. People are worried about the cost of education saddling them with debt for the rest of their adult lives. People are worried about making enough to fund their retirement. People are worried about social safety nets being solvent when they retire.
These are all issues that came about bc the capitalism we all embraced left most of society unprepared and unable to deal with these problems. People like you could have avoided this by mixing a little socialism into your platforms instead of wrongly arguing that things weren't capitalistic enough. Now the fallout is the full on embrace of socialism in the younger generations.
Your last sentence may be a trend, but there's a problem. These young revolutionaries have no money nor the means to enforce their ideology.

They’re misdiagnosing the problem if they think capitalism has anything to do with costs going up.
Donald Trump, a socialist using communist principles... https://www.fredericknewspost.com/op...e03e6a4c9.html
political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole. This describes Donald Trump’s socialism for the rich, free enterprise for the poor performance as practiced by communism. All communist leaders live lives of luxury while expecting their “subjects” to sacrifice for them, a la Donald Trump. We have mandatory auto liability insurance to protect drivers from economic disasters and this is not socialism. Health insurance for all to ensure good health and protect against economic disaster is not socialism. Preventive medicine is much cheaper than recovery medicine. Socialism is Donald Trump wanting all businesses to answer to his beck and call, regardless of his complete incompetence and ignorance in all matters.
Republicans have for decades branded EVERYTHING that resembles a public program as Socialism.. BIG mistake!!
When young people, travel abroad or use the googlemachine to look up other countries to see how much better our lives are... sure, why not, they want Socialism to!
They can't understand why Republicans are crying about Socialism, when most other 1st world countries are doing so much better, living longer, healthier, happier, more job security and worker rights.
That sounds GREAT.. compared to what the Republicans want.
Get fired for no reason, loose your healthcare if fired, pay triple in drug prices, go bankrupt because you get a disease or injury.... Republican Nirvana.
Trump "orders" US companies out of China, chastises business leaders and generally acts like a leader of a one party state, and the OP is worried about millennials. Look in the mirror, OP.

Well one can't exactly claim that light socialism has been bad for northern Europe. They have some of the best health care and education systems in the world.
Yeah and those countries all have small populations. The same type of system will NEVER work here.
All taxes SOCIALIZE the cost of government initiatives.
All tariffs Are the opposite of free market.
Property taxes SOCIALIZE the cost of public education, fire protection, police protection, parks, libraries, roads, zoning etc.
Payroll taxes SOCIALIZE old age income and healthcare insurance benefits.
The Nordic model of social democracy promotes public welfare through taxation and spending within a strong framework of a capitalist free market economy. Businesses are privately- owned. Heck, some Nordic countries embrace school choice, including private schools.
Cuba is a Communist country, whereby the state owns most everything.
