New York City mayor Bill de Blasio is current considering a proposal that would eliminate all selective schools and programs in an effort to further integrate the city’s public education system, the New York Times reported Monday.
The proposal was developed by a board that de Blasio appointed to devise policies that will reduce the racial disparities between the selective schools and gifted programs, which are mostly utilized by white and Asian students, and the non-selective schools, which are mostly populated by black and Hispanic students.
Ugh. There is nothing like a Dimwit Dimocrat to lower the standards across the board instead of challenging the kids to raise themselves up and give them the assistance such as tutoring to do so.
Black and Hispanic kids can be just as smart as white and asian kids if they are given the opportunity.
Wonderful. I can't agree more with de blasio because the progressives in NYC wealthy neighborhoods voted for this mayor and want equity. their kids will experience equity of outcome. why would these parents complain? they voted for this.

They send their kids to 50K a year private schools so this won't affect them.

Yep. All equally dumbed-down. That's "fair," right?

there are many wealthy people in manhattan who prefer private schools, but some parents (us) preferred public schools. We moved out of manhattan for our kids and commuted to the city for a few years.
progressives who voted for de blasio should be happy to sacrifice their children at the alter of public, progressive, equity education. they wanted it. I support voters' decisions.

Test scores for academic admission were based on putting less privileged students on an equal footing with students with wealthier backgrounds so all students could compete equally regardless of race, color, etc.. Now just the opposite is happening.
MLK: wanted his children to be judged by the content of their character, not by the color of their skin.
Now all Black leaders are preaching the exact opposite.
It sounds ridiculous to me that a city the size of New York City doesn't have a sizeable gifted black and Hispanic population. Surely they do.
