So two different Government agencies don't even agree on the data. What a shock! Whom to believe?
Water rise along our shores is much greater that an inch or two per decade. The difference is probably in the intensity of the tides and storms. The seawalls that are being breached all over Hawaii are mostly 50 or more years old. They are not failing from age, but from higher water levels and the increased intensity of storms.
I think the bigger issue is that the island is sinking, not due to sea level rise, but due to plate tectonics. There could be no sea level rise whatsoever and Hawaii would still sink underwater just like many islands created by the same hot spot have before and like many more will in the future.
When paid government officials support a hoax, you know the fix is in.
Especially when they say one thing "climate change" but mean "anthropogenic climate change," and wink.
If you call them out, they deny they used anthropogenic.
. . .
The scariest part of the 'alarmist' mantra is a complete disregard for facts by ‘climate scientists.’
Consider that outside the atmosphere, the sun's energy is 1300 W / sq meter, whereas at sea level, inside that 'toasty' atmosphere it is only 1000 W/ sq meter. 30% was reflected back by the 'heat trapping' atmosphere. In fact, the atmosphere keeps Earth cooler than nearby bodies in a vacuum.
- - - TEMPERATURE DATA - - -
● Earth max : (134.33°F)
● Space station max : (250°F)
● Lunar surface max : (242.33°F)
Zero atmosphere = higher maximum temperature
How does a “heat trapping”atmosphere stay colder?
And if the atmosphere is "heating up" why hasn't the maximum temperature record been broken?
HOAX, FOLKS.

I don't think anyone here disagrees with this and it has been discussed repeatedly in the last 20+ posts. The point is that it is sinking at a rate of about a half-inch per decade. That doesn't account for the degree of water incursion all around Maui.
Stop allowing habitation of these areas.
Or make homeowners sign a waiver.
"At your own risk" living. Poop hits the fan and you are on your own. End of story. No handouts, bailouts, etc on the tax dollar.
....the link in the article says exactly what I said...
...and the first sentence says they analyzed tide gauge records
..they didn't make or record tide gauge data....they analyzed NOAA's tide gauge records
NOAA does the tide gauges...they analyzed tide gauge records...they didn't make the records
I said it's sinking faster than sea levels are rising...they agree
"A computer analysis of tide-gage records in the northeast Pacific indicates that the active volcanic islands of eastern Hawaii are subsiding at a rate considerably faster than the eustatic rise of sea level."
"Maui, is subsiding at 1.7 mm per year;"...which is faster than sea level rise
They did a good job of making more tidal flooding this year than ever in the Charleston SC area.
Look I want the people in power that can make things like happen just to support their data.
Oh and I know about the flooding because we see ...lol -- not that the truth will stop you from denying there was flooding in Charleston.
You would have thought listening to media hype that the Mississippi and Missouri had record flooding. But there have been three worse ones, and 1950 was the worst since they have been keeping records.

Fifty years ago when many of these coastal structures were built, Global Warming was not on the horizon. It's a bit late to close that particular barn door with a set of trite slogans.
Here in Hawaii the setback for new construction has been increased dramatically. In 50 more years it may not have been enough, or it may have been a lot of worry for nothing depending on whether the planet continues to heat or goes into a cooling cycle.
....the link in the article says exactly what I said...
...in 50 years they have seen 0.36 ft of sea level rise.....it's 0.72 ft in 100 years....3/4 of a foot in 100 years
So you were quoting the USGS too? I missed that in your posts.
My bad.
