The story is this simple.

Dorian was being tracked. Trump got updates daily at least about projected paths. Earlier models were shown to him that included Alabama and I will assume he saw later models that didn't include Alabama, as the information was updated.

Weather channels, local stations, national stations updated models frequently and the White House issued a statement on Saturday saying that Trump was getting daily briefings. During that time, NOAA posted tweets on the changing path, as they have always done without worrying about what other politicians might be issuing false statements

Sunday morning, Trump got a briefing...they did a very important press briefing to prove Trump was hard at work (before he went and played golf again) and getting updates. Trump, even though he had just been updated, incorrectly included Alabama -- which was no way near the path of Dorian at that point on Sunday morning. No response from officials for 20 minutes but I assume pressure from folks in Alabama and concern made NOAA issue a statement saying Alabama was not in the path.

Either Trump's staff did not update Trump on this information or Trump decided he was just going to go with it and repeated two more times that day that Alabama was at risk.

At this point -- those of us that were keeping up to date start to wonder why would Trump be so adamant that Alabama was in the path when it wasn't. Wouldn't his staff have noticed that he kept making the same mistake. Trump tweets so we know he is on Twitter -- didn't he realize his error........

At this point, Trump and his staff should have just admitted the error, it really wasn't that big of a deal. BUT NO....Trump was going to rewrite the historical tracking of Dorian in order to justify his error. His ego so thin he wanted to change the natural progression. Well given that we are a society that is information driven, he can't do that. Old charts, and citing forecasts from five days before to people who know how quickly hurricane paths change and how irrelevant five day old forecasts are to be used to make plans or statements --- it didn't work. So then Trump looked more pathetic than ever....defending his stupidity, his lack of noting the updates and the change of information.'

You can blame NOAA for embarrassing him or just admit -- the President of the USA - in spite of numerous updates did not retain any of the update information. '

YES this whole issue is silly. It didn't change anything about the hurricane. BUT it speaks to the lengths Trump and this admin. will go to defend his errors, his omissions, his misinformation. So let's look at these tariff wars. Trump keeps saying they are working. Not sure how he can say that -- we have zero results in after a year or so of tariffs. We saw how hard he would fight to doctor stupid forecast to try and defend his misinformation......is there any question he's feeding us bull that the pressure on China is working.

That's why this is important. Do we want this man talking to the Taliban or Putin without any record. NO NO NO

Trump didn't create the focus...……..the press did. I still fault them more than any of the other players because their job is to ferret out the truth and report it. They should have been banging down NOAA's door to find out why the contradiction.
Of course you do -- because you are an avid Trump supporter

NOAA does not serve Trump -- they serve us. Yes indirectly he is there boss but WE are the real employers. It is more important we get accurate information than worry about the fragile ego of the PResident.

Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian. We repeat, no impacts from Hurricane #Dorian will be felt across Alabama,

This was the NOAA tweet on the Alabama misinformation. All it states is the fact....if that is insensitive to the President -- we need a new President.

AND EVEN IF the tweet had been 'rude' to the PResident. That does not justify the President then spending the next 5 days trying to justify his error. It was a mistake -- clearly a mistake we all recognized immediately.

You don't want the press reporting facts to you before they start spinning those facts a million different ways(regardless whether its left or right)?

As one of the "real employers" I do want NOAA serving the President well by giving him correct info and/or making sure they explain it to him before he talks about it. That serves me...…..and anyone else interested in a storm situation. I want to know why they dumped their job on a Coast Guard Admiral.

And, now since they have put out a statement saying when their map shows any probability of tropical wind the forecast should include that I want to know what their standard is for all that because it impacts how I decide to prepare or not.

This isn't about the Presidents ego.

I agree that Trump made it a bigger deal than it needed to be. If it is true that the NOAA is for the people and we are the employers, they would feel no need to come out in defense of Trump and stick to the facts. Why then did they come back and support him? Because politics matter.

It has nothing to do with insensitive or rude. Although, it has to be said, we have no idea whether or not political animosity underlies the way it was said.

The reason its unprofessional and poorly worded is because it added to the confusion rather than helping to clarify things. And, it undermined the president by making him look like he didn't know what he was talking about...…..when what he was saying came from their product that they gave him.

" (before he went and played golf again)", and you work 24 hours a day EVERY day. Give it a rest.

"but I assume", no kidding!

After reading this post, I want to edit my last statement.

Why did the NOAA come back and support him? Because communication matters as well as politics.

Because they were told not to contradict the president.

And your entire previous post and MOST of your posts about Trump, is because you are NOT a Trump supporter! "Pot, meet kettle"
