Because they were being flooded with refugees from further eastward where there was war and chaos. The refugees will take work at any price. So the residents who want to do better than the minimum of existence move elsewhere.

It's the same old chain reaction to war and chaos that has always happened in the human race. People will move if they must starve at home if they can move. If they cannot move, then they will die.

That's the reason why the planet is entirely occupied by human beings.

If the United States ever becomes similar to Syria or Iraq, Canada and Mexico will become flooded with Americans.
If Canada was warmer it would be flooded right now...and, yeah, lots of expats in Mexico right now!

The good news is that Russians and Americans and other can go there and buy more with less. MAGA.
What was the cause in 2012? Trump? Brexit?

Worse for GB economy if they remain with the sinking Euro ship.

forget a deal with the EU, not worth the time to negotiate. they are looking at GB as a colony, not an equal partner. elitist euros have not changed since the days they dealt in slavery. Our ancestors left that region in droves for a good reason. nothing has changed.

Expected downturn during transition. Not a failure, just a transition.

GB's only hope is to divest of the vengeful EU and make a deal with Trump. their economy will take off beyond expectation.

Here is one of the reasons the EU is in trouble....it's like sharing a house with a dozen people and some of them aren't paying their share of the rent.

As we speak the UK Parliament is walking out of Boris side.....

"Johnson has lost his majority in Parliament, with the defection of Conservative Phillip Lee to the Liberal Democrats.

●The opposition, including members of Johnson’s party, is seeking to pass legislation to delay Brexit.

●Johnson, who is addressing Parliament now, has said that if his foes succeed he will call early elections."

Another Blowhard will bite the dust...maybe after he destroys his country further, although they don't have too far to go down these days.

Well, thanks for weighing in, but it appears the Parliament and UK people may have different feelings than you and the Russians who bought 1/2 of London.

The UK has done a good job destroying themselves. We did businesses with a number of UK firms in the 1980's and the basics were that none of them succeeded. Like so many other companies they simply didn't want to listen to anyone else about to do biz in the US.

On the positive side, some Japanese car makers opened plants there! Who would have imagined the UK becoming a place that didn't make decent cars? Yet it did.

Their claim to fame these days is mostly financial matters and tourism - but they do a nice business with European and other partners in Airbus and Jet Engines and things.

Brexit isn't going to help that any...

I know.

The UK really is struggling as the 5th largest economy in the world ...

" Who would have imagined the UK becoming a place that didn't make decent cars? Yet it did."

And it still makes the odd thing or two here and there, including cars for eight of the eleven teams that compete in Formula One.

You clearly haven't been touring many British factories recently.
