We hear much talk about banning semi-autos. The magnum is actually more powerful, more recent, and more high-tech. The semi-auto goes all the way back to the 19th century. There were even guns with high clips back then, such as the 1895 Mauser.
The magnum was invented much later, when depression-era gangster wars were heating up across America. Gangsters such as Bonnie and Clyde, and 'Pretty Boy' Floyd drove V-8 Fords. In shootouts they would hide behind the engine block. There was nothing police could do.
Enter the magnum. It could slice through an engine block like a gerbil through Richard Gere. One of the first, perhaps the first, magnums made by Smith & Wesson went to J. Edgar Hoover.
But the magnum did not really gain popularity until the 1970s and the 'Dirty Harry' movies starring Clint Eastwood. Detective Harry Callahan uttered one of the most recognizable lines ever. It is little-remembered that it was in the act drawing down on an unarmed black male:

The magnum should be allowed ONLY for police and military. I would make exception for a licensed security operator such as "P.I. Magnum." The show's star Tom Selleck later became an NRA spokesperson. But in the show, he was licensed and had been trained to shoot the magnum as a Vietnam veteran. Are you? I agree--there should be a gun or hobby forum, so that those who love guns can discuss their arms and ammo separately from political issues.
Once again know nothing pea brains want to ban a certain class of weapons, now it’s the magnum handguns.
There is a class of handguns that are not magnums but possess more fire power than any magnum.
I have a Freedom Arms revolver chambered for the .475 Linebaugh. That monster round has more velocity than a Desert Eagle .50 AE. And it’s not a magnum.
I wish these people would stop trying all this useless nonsense.
