When i travelled 2000 miles to surpise my mom for thanksgiving, I still rang the doorbell, even though she didnt own a gun. Just didnt want to scare her by coming into the house unexpectedly. Its common sense.

The daughter was acting like an intruder. Her fault. Very unfortunate in any case, but she brought this on by her behavior sneaking in like that knowing that mom wasn’t expecting it.

Depends on your neighborhood. Paranoia may be a required survival mechanism in places like Chicago and Detroit and other inner cities.

Despite the anti gun folks trying to sell the story that gun violence is evenly distributed across cities and states, IT IS NOT! Place a pin in a map for every gunshot and notice how the pins are clustered.

Perhaps she lived in one of those neighborhoods, where, when seconds count, the cops are minutes away.

Shooter was at fault on several levels.

Not everyone should own a gun but everyone should have the right to own a gun. That goes for cops as well.

Is having a fire extinguisher or spare tire paranoia?????? when was the last time you had a flat tire???? your house catch on fire often?

This happened in Girard, OH. Where there are only 20 violent crimes per year.

Even though crime rates are down, people have just been made paranoid by the 24/7 news cycle where you can hear about a stabbing on the other side of the country 15 minutes after it happened.

I'm reminded of that line from Anchorman... "It works 50% of the time, every time."

So chalk this up to another casualty of the need to be constantly armed in America- children can't even expect to not be shot by their parents walking into their home. And somehow some of you make the argument that this is totally reasonable. Imagine if the daughter had been killed like in so many other incidents... all because the daughter wanted a normal, surprise reunion like has been happening for hundreds of years in human society.

Do you have a source for that?
