I believe there should also be a tax on back hoes and power post hole diggers. I long for the good old days where we dug holes with a shovel.

Also as an accountant I say we tax adding machines and more recently computers.

Why don't we work on some of the actual problems that currently face us, such as the national debt, failing public schools, mass shootings, illegal immigration...list goes on.

We can talk about robotics and job loss when it actually starts to happen. US unemployment rate is currently 3.7%. Traditionally economists have considered 4% to be 'full employment' since there are always a few people between jobs for various reasons.

I also don't agree with government meddling as the solution, but these large corporations are screwing themselves in the long run, because if everyone is automated out of a job, how will they buy the corporations' products?

The few who remain employed to keep the automation running will not be enough to sustain the economy.

That's a grim forecast that has been made many times in the past but never realized.

Automation makes life easier because it does the tedious, dangerous and difficult tasks faster and cheaper than humans can.

The things robots can't do will still be done by humans, so were not going to see massive unemployment due to automation.

As productivity increases due to improvements in automation, the products we buy will get cheaper and cheaper while quality increases.

There really isn't a down side unless you are too lazy to prepare for the jobs of the future.
