Eco modes generally change throttle mapping and potentially enable “auto start/stop” functionality. Most cars in city driving waste fuel idling, and this provides up to a 15% increase in fuel economy.

No it's not. Who would bet money on the future of indefinite cheap gasoline and loose pollution controls? Obviously not the automakers who have an eye towards a global market. Don't worry, trucks and SUVs will still be big sellers, although more efficient as time goes on.

People can't seem to grasp the fact that we wont have cheap and plentiful gas forever, the fuel efficiency pays for itself. How soon they forget $4 a gallon and gas station lines, very short sighted.
