Re-invigorate the DCM Program (Director of Civilian Marksmanship). Ensure that pro-gun organizations (Gun Owners of America, etc.), using professional, well trained instructors, have gun clubs and gun ranges (indoor and outdoor) in every school all across the country. Make shooting sports part of every "physical education" program. Require the DCM to once again furnish weapons and ammunition to every affiliated club, so that every club member has at least 500 rounds to fire every summer.
The benefits of such a program will be multi-faceted:

1. ALL school-age youngsters will acquire a working knowledge of firearms.
2. As the proficiency of youngsters (marksmanship) improves, it will save all branches of the military a great deal of money. New recruits from all across the country will have some firearms proficiency, instead of just the recruits from Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and rural areas of other states. Basic shooting training will no longer be required!

3. There will eventually be no more people making really dumb statements regarding firearms. As more youngsters acquire a firearms education and aptitude, the stupidity will fade away. Yep, the kids will educate their parents!

A win-win-win situation in every way!

In answer to the OP's question.
1) I would arm every law abiding US citizen, that wanted to be armed.

2) Let nature take it's course.

Kinda similar to the system we have now

I wouldn't worry about guns.
People just need to raise their kids to respect life and each other without the fakeness and hypocrisy of misguided social justice obsessions.
Until we decide to do that, good luck.

I realize that and you're entitled.... to do what ever you like. Mad Max will be around the corner lol cowboy

Yup, sometimes the most simple answer is the right answer.

Make it so that committing a crime with a gun is a felony in itself, in addition to the crime.

Also make it a felony to neglect updating the NICS database in a timely and accurate manner so that felons don't pass background checks.

Back ground checks are a joke. You know that right? Any database is just GIGO and full of holes which a felon could give a flip about. All these "data bases" do is create revenue and annoy people that would never commit a crime in the first place. Safety *, isn't the goal of gun grabbers anyway.

* saving lives regardless of how

They don't enforce it now if someone gets caught lying on it. Over 80,000 have been caught and less than 1% prosecuted.
