Yes it was the default setting for Americans, ruined by leftism and globalism.
But we’re Americans a blip in a race that likes to expand beyond it’s borders? Continental or even planetary. It’s like youbthibk America was the last atop for humanity.
That's was my life growing up and then again with a family of my own. Well, 2 cats/no dog. It is the best model so I emulated it to the best of my abilities.
A default setting for the American family? Or families overall?
Or was it just a blip in humanity?
Or were they comfortable lies of the American dream?
It was no blip. The nuclear family may not have had a dog, cat, or car, but when 75% of us lived on farms, they had a house.
And when we still educated our children to the limit of the technology of the time, the cat, dog and car were options that could be owned if chosen, as they could be afforded.
When machines began to take over human work, the U.S. used education to keep the citizens employed. Once all cotton was hand-picked.
When the cotton gin replaced those hands, the U.S. mandated universally educated all kids through the primary grades. This made all the kids smarter than the smarts needed to pick cotton by hand.
When the electricity began replacing a lot of manual jobs, the U.S. mandated secondary education. A high school degree was necessary to keep up with the technology of that time.
Nowadays, our education is behind the technology, not out in front of it.
That's the blip. We have never fallen so far behind before.

That was our entire neighborhood where/when I grew up. We didn't know anyone who lived otherwise. Of course, some families had three (like ours) children, some four or more, in typical suburban three-bedroom, bath and a half, tract homes with a yard.
We (DH and I) raised two children, own a house, at least two cars (presently five vehicles), a variety of cats (now down to three), and two dogs (now deceased from old age), not to mention rabbits and guinea pigs. Oldest DD and her DH head a two parent home, have a house, two children, two vehicles (a car and a mini van), and one cat. I've been telling them they need a dog.
