The 70's.
It wasn't uncommon to see a rifle in the window of our pick ups at school. We were responsible and trusted back then.
Kids played outside and didn't need parents standing over them.
Kids were much more active and involved in sports.
The news was news and not agenda based hit pieces.
The US was winning the space race.
We had some pretty cool muscle cars, but the Japan had a few cool cars too, the 240Z 260Z 280Z.
Billy jack movies.
Saturday Matinees were still a big deal.
Many of felt no need to lock our doors. Neighbors knew each other and cared. I grew up in small town America. Everybody knew everybody. Most Boys still got their hair cut at the barber shop. We would listen to the older men tell stories. They were the heroes. Good times.
We had some downside as well.. Nixon disgraced a nation. Carter attempted to give away anything that wasn't nailed down, and far too many politicians and civilians disrespected our returning soldiers. Racism was a real deal back then too. I mean real racism, in your face racism, but times were changing.
What are 1976 values? I wouldn't mind seeing some pornstaches though. Those sideburns are sexy too. I highly suspect there were a bunch of tight asses bitching about "kids these days" in 76 and we still have that.
Also I would like to be able to buy a car that has a stick shift and maybe a Pontiac Firebird with t tops.
In addition to the music, the 1970's had ground breaking television often covering hard hitting social/political issues but often doing so with great humor. All In The Family being the first and perhaps most memorable.
Not as big in the ratings and coming late in the decade was WKRP in Cincinnati. Great show overall.
They also had Tim Reid, who played DJ Venus Fly Trap. One memorable episode was when Venus Fly Trap (the only black DJ at a white radio station) was asked to be interviewed by a magazine with a largely black readership. The episode show Venus wondering/questioning if this "militant" black mag would think he has enough street cred. Turns out the guy who comes to interview him is the only white writer at the majority black magazine. Comedy and irony ensues. Great episode and a great show.
Why 1976 specifically? I could do without the fashion and hairstyles, but enjoyed many of the '70s TV shows, many of which promoted family values.
As a child, some favorites were Little House on the Prairie, Good Times (Willona reminded me of a family member), Mary Tyler Moore, LaVerne and Shirley, Happy Days, and more. Golden age of TV pre-cable/internet. Heck, I even watched the bowling and painting shows on PBS; I found the droning voices of the commentators oddly soothing. There was an innocence to mainstream TV and pop culture overall.

We were already past the sexual revolution at that time yet we were still pre-Internet and Jerry Falwell had yet to rise to national prominence.
Agreed

All in the '70s.
Speak for yourself, I quite like mid-late '70s Pop/Top40 and (some)Disco. C'mon, that decade brought us The Pina Colada Song, after all.

that one definitely goes in the minus column.
