I’ve always considered guys to be gender neutral in certain contexts like addressing a group of people. I’m from Texas so generally say y’all, which is a nice gender neutral way to address a group too, but sometimes I say you guys and I will not change that.
She goes on to list all the ways the term Guy has changed over the years. I do not think it sounds like using male-gendered terminology at all. I also do not care one bit about gendered terminology, so meh. You want to say fireman or congressman or mankind, have at it. Doesn’t bother me or make me think less of my abilities as a woman.

LOL. I'm a southerner so y'all or yuns (short for you-uns) is pretty common. Grew up in the north though, where you guys or youse guys was common. But what comes to mind when I here you guys is The Electric Company my little brother watched everyday in the 70's. HEY YOU GUYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who know what emotional damage that all encompassing phrase was doing to those poor children.

I’m from that generation, and I can say with certainty it did no damage at all.

Exactly. How insecure does one have to be to have commonly accepted gender neutral words bother them.
what you learn from one woman is not transferable to the next.
Only the media can take a one off comment out of obscurity and magnify it out of proportion, pretending it is mainstream thought. Thus creating a sideview mirror effect. Objects in the mirror may appear larger than they really are.
I live in the South, and use the term Y'all for more than one person, which is not gender specific. When speaking to an individual, I use their name. Guy or dude is a masculine name. Do not call my wife dude or guy, it is an insult, she is a female and a lady.

Reason: Political Correctness is fascism pretending to be Manners.
Linguistic hygienists. The precursor to totalitarianism. Guys , the best thing to do is to either avoid or ridicule.

Right arm!
Orwell felt obligated to include an appendix to 1984 to elaborate on the use of language by totalitarians.
In English, German, Latin and all the Romance languages (the ones with which I'm familiar), traditional common usage is to employ the masculine case endings for mixed groups.
But language is a living thing and easily mutates, so, I ax you, wassup?
