The first unique quality it has is its official primary language (English) and its de facto version of it, Singlish. Singlish is English with borrowings from Chinese, Malay, Hindu, and Imperial English as spoken by the former overseers. There's a number of dishes created or perfected in Singapore that reflect blendings of the various cultures. If you have any shred of an adventurous spirit in you, you'd find the food courts that host hawker stands to be a culinary paradise. Sorry-la, no french fries though.

And in what would be horrendous to you, there's a lot of intercultural marriages.

The bottom line is, every culture is respected and allowed to flourish, but everyone is expected to at least tolerate (and pretty much everyone comes to appreciate) the cultures of their neighbors.

Does it sound like your idea of hell?
I don't have a problem with intercultural marriages. You're missing the point entirely and that is as long as there is a dominant and identifying culture and the demographics reflect that having minority cultures living among them it can work. It's when you have two or more competing cultures is where it doesn't work in a society.

No blacks, no browns. Look at any chart or statistic ever produced and you will find that blacks have the lowest iq with the highest crime rates. Browns are second. Multiculture isn’t the problem so much as multi racial.

I have been to Singapore a few years back and I remember being told that spiting on the sidewalk can land you in jail...also a drug selling offense is/can be punishable by death in some cases. Yes, Singapore is a police state maybe worst than China.

Exactly.

I admit to liking their notion of order and respect. But under threat?

No thank you.

Examples oral and anal sex between men, criminal offense punishment up to 2 years in prison. A $150 fine can be levied for not flushing a public toilet after use. Littering carrys a $1000 fine and community service picking up litter in the same area (kind of a no bin chagrin deal). Technically being naked at home is considered pornography, which makes days without pants both dubiously legal (if wearing a shirt) and a risk.

What's most impressive about Singapore are it's many contributions to society in terms of art, science, technology and literature. Absolutely spectacular.

Singapore has actually moderated some of their laws over the years. The original anti littering laws for instance required the offender to wear a vest with litterer emblazoned on it. And then in the 70’s it was illegal for men to wear long hair. If caught by police you could be ordered to have a hair cut. And employers would not hire males with long hair.

Furthermore, according to a recent survey, more than 90% of Singaporeans are comfortable with having people of other races and religions as neighbors or colleagues. In an interview for International Herald Tribune, Singapore’s founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, lectured the US on social cohesion and equality, attributing his country’s economic success to the racial harmony in the society.https://www.historycampus.org/2016/c...ticulturalism/

At least 80% of residents in Singapore live in public housing and according to Singapore law, all public housing buildings must have a mixture of nationalities. Ethnically segregated neighborhoods is illegal there.

The percentage of Muslims in Singapore is similar in numbers as the great cities of Paris and London, yet there has not been a major terrorist attack or threat there.

The Western World can learn a lot from Singapore.
How can you call Singapore a multicultural society when 98% of it's inhabitants are culturally/racially Asian. You have one prodominant ethnic group at three quarters of the population an two "minority" groups who are similar culturally (on a global basis). Compare with a place like California where there is no majority ethnic or racial group and you have people from every country on the planet.

Singapore has a lot of positives no doubt but it's hardly multi-cultural. Just a bunch of monkey spanking on the part of Singapore boosters.

Yeah, but the offenses I provided and penalties are current, not from the 70s.
