Parents told not to terrify children over climate change as rising numbers treated for 'eco-anxiety'

Quote:
group of psychologists working with the University of Bath says it is receiving a growing volume of enquiries from teachers, doctors and therapists unable to cope.

The Climate Psychology Alliance (CPA) told The Daily Telegraph some children complaining of eco-anxiety have even been given psychiatric drugs.

The body is campaigning for anxiety specifically caused by fear for the future of the planet to be recognised as a psychological phenomenon.

However, they do not want it classed as a mental illness because, unlike standard anxiety, the cause of the worry is “rational”.

Hmmm.... here are the choices... tell them the world will end in 12 years and scare them to death - or, tell them that it's a hoax and then subject them to bullying by those in the global warming religion.

Sounds like a no win situation.

I had to de-indoctrinate my daughter from all that AGW drivel.

Her teachers were quite upset with me saying she could get a failing grade. I countered with they are not supposed to teach one side but to present both sides of the equation.

So I told my daughter to parrot what they said but not to worry because nothing in reality would happen.

Here's a thought... stop hysterically exaggerating the effects of climate change.

They can’t help themselves. They get more shrill when they think no one pays them lip service.

Lots of money at stake here... they won't walk away and stop the hysteria just because kids that they don't know are traumatized.

A science teacher has to teach...well, science.
Scientific evidence that we have now shows climate change and predictive analytics when used on this science shows the indicated outcome
Could it be changed and/or refuted one day? I suppose so- there was also a time when science showed that a cancer diagnosis was a death sentence; now it's different. But the science teachers have to teach what the current scientific truth is. What choice do they have?

But when they start putting time frames to whatever disaster du jour is at the moment is over the top. It should be said it’s theory. Not hard fact.

The proper term might be envirophobia.
