I'm technically a millennial but on the older side, my girlfriend is firmly Gen X and love so much about her, but thinking about it, it seems on the likes of forums boomers and millennials are the generations talked about 95% of the time. Now obviously many Gen X have certainly gone on to accomplish great things, my girlfriend included, but to me it kind of seems as if Gen X is treated like some kind of red-headed step child.

Why do you think they get so little attention in comparison? And for other Gen X people, were you or others you knew really called "slackers"?

We're keeping a low profile until we take over the world.

Why does Gen X get overlooked and rarely talked about so much?

They're the ones doing the complaining!

Most are tired of arguing with folks of their parents age and just want to see them fade away with their old archaic views.

Millenial's have a bit more angst and are just removed enough to pick up the torch ha..

I always thought Millenial's were the slackers out of the bunch.

When generations are discussed, it is usually not in a good way. So to you it may seem like we are “red-headed step children”. To us it is, staying above the fray.

That's definitely true...so many of them expect these great paying jobs to just be handed to them right out of college...or that they have to live downtown or in some great area.

As for those of us in Gen X, I think we are a smaller generation...especially smaller than the Baby Boomers.

Gen Xers are chill as hell.

They had some of the best music too.

From our point of view it just seemed like that. Older generations simply got portrayed as “I just walked into the managers office and said “im the man from the job! And I got the job!”

We do that no and we get escorted out.

What im saying is that we were all told “go to college and youll get the job you want”.
Thats not the case. Its who you know.

Atleast for trying to get into animation. I finally got the type of job I want. Atleast animating car parts and building apps.

What I wanted to do was be a character animator or work in game design. So my job is there, but not quite there. But better than customer service.

1. We never threw a generational temper tantrum in the streets with riots and protests like the boomers did and the millennials are STILL doing.

2. We minded our own business and never tried to tell others how they should live. We never wanted to change the world.

3. We have been busy working our tails off over the last 30 years in spite of some serious economic challenges in our way. (Yes millennials we are not the generation who had it super easy as y’all think)

4. We’ve also been busy raising kids and paying for their college/leftist indoctrination. Now we have elderly parents too. We dont have time to change the world but now we have to find the time to try and save it from all these young socialist. We actually liked America the way it was. Remember we grew up during the Cold War, we KNOW all that socialism won’t work.

We are sometimes portrayed as cyclical and some of that is likely true. We never liked all the bad behavior of the boomers we grew up hearing about endlessly. We absolutely loath the entitlement and political correctness of the millennials. All of this makes it difficult for us to be optimistic about the nations future.

We overall keep our heads down and stay out of the limelight. We also are a small group compared to boomers and millennials. We one were jokingly called “baby busters” because there was far less of us. Because of that not much was ever marketed towards our generation and that is one of the reasons no one talks about us.

We were the last generation that knew how to work a record player, could make flannels look cool, and we also invented grunge.

For that...nobody can touch us...previous or subsequent generations.
