China can disregard America and trade with the rest of the world...they are playing the long game and are globalist... not as isolationist as the US. Trump playing the short game...China is not an "easy to win" trade war. Nothing Trump can do to stop China's rise to global dominance.

Trump undermined and trapped himself making this China deal a campaign mission, and now he has to take it as far as he can or he'll look weak. Do not blame the left for his failure to see the economy for what it is. Just like his wall China has become nothing more than a campaign talking point to buy time until Nov 2020.
The corporate ***** wing of the Republican Party (Romney, McCain, Bush, et. al) is and always has been aligned against Trump.

They love China's version of free trade.

It's the next best thing to importing cheap foreign workers.

This trade war has bipartisan support and a significant number of Democrats actually threatened to veto any trade deal that might be seen as too soft on China. Chuck Schumer and Mark Warner are even more anti-China than Trump. The Chinese don't really care who is president since they know both Democrats and Republicans are anti-China. The only pro-China wing left are the business conservatives in the Republican party but they have lost all power. There isn't going to be a deal even with a Democrat in office so these tariffs are permanent.

Agree. The Chinese are smart and they have realized that the us has made the decision to treat china as an enemy. China will re calibrate its attitude and behavior toward the us accordingly.

The Huawei restrictions more or less spelled the end of any trade deal with China. "Moderate and rational" Republicans like Marco Rubio and Mitt Romney and Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Mark Warner all said they will pass a law that will make the Huawei restrictions permanent. None of these are MAGA guys but they are just as hard line if not more so on China as Trump and his gang.

Also, the anti-Huawei campaign started under BUSH not Trump.

Only person who can save China right now is Sheldon Adelson and that's if he convinces Trump to attack Iran and if the Chinese threaten to expel his casinos from Macau.

Is he perhaps paving the way so each rumor of discussion with China from now until election day allows him to keep manipulating the stock market??

President Donald Trump dimmed hopes for an imminent detente with China on Tuesday, telling reporters a trade deal might not happen until after the 2020 elections.

Deputy-level meetings are scheduled to begin on Thursday in Washington, according to a top US Trade Representative official. The meetings are meant to pave the way for higher-level negotiations, but the two sides remain divided on key issues.

"If it's after the election, it'll be a deal like you've never seen," Trump said aboard Air Force One. "It'll be the greatest deal ever, and China knows that. They think I'm going to win. China thinks I'm going to win so easily. And they're concerned because I told them, if it's after the election it's going to be far worse than what it is right now."

That's my take on it.

China doesn't care who is US president. They have a long-term plan, and they're working it. This is just a bump in the road to them, they'll weather it.

It will happen if China agrees to every single demand made. The demands however are tantamount to an unconditional surrender and no one, not even a close ally of the US would ever agree to anything that infringed on their sovereignty as much as those demands. It's suicidal for any government, even a pro US democratic one, to accept those trade demands.

If there were partisan support, China would have already made a deal.

Subvert the president at every turn for political revenge and then recoil at a delayed deal?????

Democrats own the delay!

Do you actually know who has hold of the US' proverbial dangly bits in terms of debt? You seem somewhat confused. We are not on top in this game. You can't subvert the truth, only deny it. Since his orangeness has unilaterally applied all these tariffs, why would you expect bilateral support for one of the more stupid (I know, I know, it's a very long list) things 'he' has done? You must think that that everyone else should just bend over and accept what's coming. Life is tough eh?
