Common sense approach that would recognize and respect the civil rights of all Americans, even in regressive, backwards states. I am tired of checking a hodge-podge of state and local laws when traveling to figure out what states I can visit, which ones I need to avoid altogether and which ones I have to unload and stow the handgun in. Imagine if we allowed states to make up their own laws concerning what cars you can drive? Drive a Prius into Idaho? You're an instant felon and your car is seized from you. A pickup in California? Same. Etc. Incredibly stupid and childish-yet we have the same thing with regard to a constitutionally protected civil right.
As a handy side effect-it would utterly melt a lot of bigoted snowflakes. The meltdown would be fun to watch.
While delivering a speech on the recent violence, Trump said “we must do a better job of identifying and acting on early warning signs,” and he suggested social media companies could develop new ways of catching “red flags.”
“I am directing the Department of Justice to work in partnership with local state and federal agencies, as well as social media companies, to develop tools that can detect mass shooters before they strike,” Trump said in the speech.
In other news; Mark Zuckerberg was in the White House on Thursday.
We keep forgetting that ultimately its we the people, us, that are the final say on what laws are or aren't. If nobody liked a law and didn't obey it and it couldn't or wouldn't be enforced, it doesn't matter who made it. The President could sign it and the Supreme Court could uphold it. If the people say forget it, its a no go.
So if the person somehow flunks and isn't granted the permit, the govt then prevents him from buying a gun, or prevents him from carrying it concealed?
Completely unconstitutional, as you well know.
Don't quit your day job.
This is Not about purchasing a gun, only getting a CCW.
The requirememt to have a CCW to carry concealed already exists as the state level. This just disempowers liberal states from denying such permits.

It is incontrovertible that CCW programs help deter crimes virtually everywhere they exist. The Florida experience is typical.
I would like to propose that President Trump, via Executive Order, direct the creation and implementation of a National CCW Permitting Program where permits would be issued on a "Shall-Issue" basis. It would include a background check, and the only basis for a denial of Permit would be a failure of said check.
The permit issue would be valid and enforceable by the Federal Government in ALL states and territories, and a refusal or failure of State of Local governments/agencies to honor such permits would be considered to be, and handled as, a violation of Civil Rights and prosecutable under cognizant federal statutes.
Once the procedures and process are crafted, operation of the program can be handled by the NRA and/or other gun-rights focused Civil Rights NGOs, funded by a small administrative fee.
Such a program would take a HUGE bite our of crime.
If you think that the northeastern states will accept universal CCW in this climate and this many shootings you are living in fantasy land.
They'll have no option as it will defined as a protected civil right with SEVERE penalties for violation.
