Trump said on 11 separate occasions in 2016 that he would eventually release his tax returns, just as every other president has, Democrat or Republican, over the last 34 years.

Well, for the last 3 years, Trump has flat out refuse to release his tax returns like he said he would.

And now, he is actively fighting in court to keep his tax returns from ever being released, even to prosecutors.

Trump supporters -- if there's no wrongdoing and absolutely nothing to hide, why is Trump going to such great lengths to keep anyone from seeing his tax returns??

Trump aside, I'm not comfortable with making tax returns a requirement to run for POTUS.

We already have too much nitpicking and too few people that want to run because of the intense scrutiny. We are just going to make things worse in the long term just to get revenge on a guy who may only have ~1 year left in office.

Trump knows his supporters absolutely do not care what he does. He could pee on them they would believe him when he tells them its raining. They. Do. Not. Care.

I’m guessing people care more about the unemployment rate than Trump’s tax returns. But I guess we’ll see in 2020, won’t we?

We don't know. If there were a problem, The IRS would take it up. The Democrats are just fishing for something to be outraged about.

The issue that OP posted was not "the people", it was the NY Attorney General who is investigating possible crimes committed by Trump with his campaign finance.

So whether Trump makes good on his promise is immaterial. It is now a matter of whether Trump committed a crime.

IRS doesn't really care where the money comes from, even if illegal, just that it's taxed properly. Whether the IRS is investigating you or not doesn't clear you of illegal activity.

"Income from illegal activities, such as money from dealing illegal drugs, must be included in your income on Form 1040, line 21, or on Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ (Form 1040) if from your self-employment activity."
