1989 - "A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000" U.N. Predicts Disaster if Global Warming Not Checked
2006 - Al Gore predicts that we have 10 years to do something before all the icecaps melt.
2019 - Now democrats are, once again, claiming that we only have 10 years left before it's too late.
Is there a limit to the number of times that people will fall for this?
Well to be fair we have done some things to course correct.
But yeah, that's all exaggeration because people just don't care when it starts to be something that they won't see in their lifetime.
Something that was rather serious that we corrected rather quickly was CFCs and harm to the ozone layer. The hole is shrinking now, all well within the timespan of a single lifetime. Longer term impacts are harder to motivate.

And how did it fail? Ice caps are melting, as he predicted. He never said what would happen in 10 years, he only said that we have 10 years to fix an on-going problem. We didn't fix it by 2000, so if he is right, sea levels are going to rise more.

Here's another quote from the article.
Quote:
governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control.
Nothing has been reversed. So why waste time and money on something that is now "beyond human control"?
