Years of socialist indoctrination (promoting equality of outcomes and violence) via government schools and corporate media paying dividends.
It's more than that these days. Parents can put a small fortune and tons of time into a child's sports. Private lessons, traveling teams, expensive equipment. So if Johnny plays right field instead of pitcher, Herman bats 9th instead of 4th, Antonio plays tight end instead of qb, etc., parents see their investment and their kids college scholarship going down the drain.

Perhaps.
But at least with my nephews and nieces they have separate leagues based on that level of commitment. His kids play in the "fun" league where no kid should be in if their parents want them to be the next Tom Brady or Tiger Woods. And these parents still go insane like they got their mortgage riding on a basketball game between 9-year-olds.

simply put, it's just plain old narcissistic rage.
These parents were the kids raised in the “self-esteem movement” of the 80s and 90s, they were taught they could do no wrong...
So, naturally, their kids must be exceptional too.
I see it as parent's backlash. Thugs win football games. The more thugs you have the more likely your school is to win. It doesn't matter if you are inherently violent and dumb as a stump; if you can flatten people on the football field you will be granted special status in the school and written about in glowing terms in the local paper.
Parents have had enough. This chart and article will show that football has lost the most players, while baseball - a much gentler sport - has done fairly well. But baseball players are not treated as royalty the way football players are.
The article may claim it is about "youth sports", but it is really about losing football. I say, good riddance. We, the adults, took it too far when we built million dollar stadiums. It needs a reset.
Bad behavior and no filters flows from the top folks. If our leaders have no decorum what you expecting from the rest? There’s very little respect for leadership as the do not practice what they preach - from parents - to bosses - law enforcement to the clergy. This weekend watched two separate videos, one in USA state congress meeting and another in Australia- both women went off on the men who were acting like male chauvinist jerks that were playing the good ole boys club grandstanding. They weren’t going to have it and blew everyone to kingdom come. It’s public but that how it is now. Just let er fly! I do applaud the ladies, but I ask what made them go to those extremes?
What is the point of training your kid to be a star youth sports athlete? There's a tiny chance it even lasts through college let along into the pros. And that's a hard life of injuries and arthritis, at the least.
Parents are way too involved in children's sports, growing up in the 60's and 70's there wasn't such a large vocal group of parents. Many think their child is budding super star and they make life miserable not only for the coaches and refs but also their child, I see where some travel soccer teams wouldn't allow kids to play on their high school teams. The amount of money these parent pour into sport is ridiculous and that just adds to the pressure.
I don't quite understand how parents can get in a brawl at even a T-Ball game, those parents need to find a life of their own.

Oh my lands. Youth sports is BIG BUSINESS these days with every parent convinced that little Johnny is going to be the next Tom Brady or Michael Phelps or . . you name it.
Why is it the conservative trailer trash who always seem to be the ones screaming at the Ref (as well as their own kids) and everyone else?
There is a lot of right wing conspiracy doctrine on this thread.
I'm shocked that none of them of complained about "participation trophies" yet.
