I'd wager that the bulk of the 61 Democrats who aren't on board with impeachment are from conservative leaning districts.

Trump has driven the market down with his comments in the past, should the decision to impeach be made based on the market.

This is pretty much the nuclear option for Democrats and the 2020 election.

If it ends up like Russia and collusion, Trump will be virtually untouchable - short of some sort of unforeseen national calamity.

I believe the number one legislative priority for Democrats should be to deny President Trump a second term.

It really is. You'd think that Dems would have learned their lesson after Russia and fake collusion, after trying to smear Brett Kavanaugh, etc.

Some of you need to go back to Civics 101.

Sure. If any of 61 Democrats are ready to end their political careers for this little charade, then by all means, let them fall on their swords.

And they have already been trying to convince these people for three years now. Also, every day that passes, the upcoming elections loom ever larger.

Several that are for impeachment are freshmen democrats from districts that they took back from the GOP in 2018, many of them were against impeachment before today.

According to the rules, you need the Senate to hold a trial, not to just convict.

Mitch McConnell is in charge of that, and so far the majority of the Senate has shown no interest in holding one.

The House can approve an inquiry. Without an actual trial, the inquiry is really just a ‘fact finding’ mission that goes nowhere. But the Dems will be sure to make it look as if they have more power than they actually have by creating a media circus around the “inquiry “

But, I see this backfiring against Democrats bigly. And I'm not even sure if the votes are there for impeachment. More than a few Democrats in the House are from conservative-leaning districts. This is why I think we haven't had a requisite number of Democrats actually come out for impeachment.

In any event, even if impeachment was voted upon and passed (no way Senate convicts and removes), I wager that this fires up the base who is sick and tired of the #resistance crowed doing everything in their power from day one to take this president down and stop his progress.
At this point we very well could lose the election. But something had to be done. Trump can't keep pissing on the Constitution.
