This is a good thing for all 3 countries and I don't know what the hold up is. I get "resisting" but at some point you've got to take the wins when they are put in front of you.
There are good things and bad things that balance out to not much change at all. Half full, yin and yang balance indeed.
Yup. I don't think people will care all that much about the changes if all the basics of NAFTA that won't change don't affect them.
I had some recent acquaintance with NAFTA when I ordered some parts from Canada about a month ago. The parts are only made by a Canadian, and have no equivalents made anywhere else.
I expected it would take at least a month for them to arrive. But NAFTA actually expedited their delivery. I got the parts in about 4 days, less time than domestic delivery usually takes.
I asked the delivery lady why this was so, and she said NAFTA compliance removes a lot of the obstruction the import/export process has with all the other nations who export their products here. There's nothing in the Trump revision that changes this at all.
I never have objected to Trump's revision. Every treaty has a life span, and they all either need to be revised to meet the present or they must be allowed to die. 25 years is plenty of time, so Trump's revision was both needed and was good as far as I could see it.
And if he wants to change the name of the treaty, why not let him change it? What's in a name? The treaty is the most important deal, and it remains. It also remains as a mutual advantage to the 3 nations that comprise North America.
Even Mexico is fed up with Pelosi's stalling and excuses.
Yesterday Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez-Obrador (AMLO) sent a second letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging USMCA ratification. Team Trump and Team AMLO are working together against Team Pelosi & AFL-CIO Richard Trumka.
Essentially AMLO has been saying the labor provisions within the USMCA trade pact are already being put in place by Mexico, and Pelosi should quit trying to hide behind labor concerns to avoid ratification.
Get on with the usmca already, geeesh. Treasonous pelosi is hurting Americans and helping the chinese. All because "orange man bad". She should be 86d
THey have been trying to make sure the ideas in the original agreement are enforceable. SHe's making sure it isn't all for show. She's making sure the labour conditions are enforced. Are you saying you just want the show not the substance?
