All the AGW hoopla is about a change in CO2 from 280 ppm to 420 ppm.

Libs will tell you that not only has their life changed, but all of humanity is in danger from this change in atmospheric CO2.

Just how has your life changed in the last 40 years due this "terrible" CO2? Are you impoverished? Unable to find food or water? Roaming the deserts in a "Mad Max" world of anarchy and men in mohawks and loincloths attempting to steal your gasoline?

Greta Thunberg tells us her "dreams have been stolen". What dreams? How specifically has the world changed (not what you think MIGHT HAPPEN) due to CO2?

Do you understand that all the carbon atoms in YOU ultimately came from CO2, that gas you hate? CO2 is as vital to life as oxygen and water, without which there could not be life on our planet. So how has this building block of life adversely affected YOU?

Do you understand as well that CO2 levels BELOW 200 ppm COULD threaten life on the planet? We have much more to fear from a LACK of CO2, not an increase.

I used to live in Washington State. I spent many years climbing and skiing in the mountains and warming has melted a good fraction of the glaciers. The same thing is happening in the Canadian Rockies and in the Alps in Europe. A destructive beetle - the Pine Beetle - which was never seen in Washington because it was too cold is now killing trees there including two on our land.

Now I live in Hawaii and here the coral is dying or dead from warmer water. When coral dies, the local fish that live around it either die or leave. There are huge swaths of ocean surrounding Maui that are dead.

The effects of AGW creep up and every year will be a little more unless we do something. California has had a lot of bad drought recently. Is that from warming? Hard to say but if it keeps up, at what point do you say it now time to do something? Personally I think it is time to do something.

We've been through this before. You love making the argument that carbon is one of the building blocks of life and that CO2 is required by plants for the process of photosynthesis. These things are true, but it's also true that too much of a good thing can lead to disastrous results. So let's define the word "pollution":

Quote:
Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that cause adverse change.[1] Pollution can take the form of chemical substances or energy, such as noise, heat or light. Pollutants, the components of pollution, can be either foreign substances/energies or naturally occurring contaminants.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollution

Quote:
Pollution, also called environmental pollution, the addition of any substance (solid, liquid, or gas) or any form of energy (such as heat, sound, or radioactivity) to the environment at a rate faster than it can be dispersed, diluted, decomposed, recycled, or stored in some harmless form. The major kinds of pollution, usually classified by environment, are air pollution, water pollution, and land pollution. Modern society is also concerned about specific types of pollutants, such as noise pollution, light pollution, and plastic pollution. Pollution of all kinds can have negative effects on the environment and wildlife and often impacts human health and well-being.
https://www.britannica.com/science/p...on-environment

Quote:
A broader definition of pollutant is a substance that causes instability or discomfort to an ecosystem. Over the past 10,000 years, the level of atmospheric carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has remained at relatively stable levels. However, human CO2 emissions over the past few centuries have upset this balance. The increase in CO2 has some direct effects on the environment. For example, as the oceans absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, it leads to acidification that affects many marine ecosystems. However, the chief impact from rising CO2 is warmer temperatures.

According to the Mauna Loa Observatory, atmospheric CO2 concentrations on Sept 27, 2019 were 407.96 ppm. At this point in the earth's history, most reasonable people would agree that CO2 has become a pollutant.

You conveniently ignore the horrific forest fires in California (remember the Paradise fire just last year?), category 5 hurricanes such as Maria in Puerto Rico, Katrina in NOLA, and Sandy in NYC. You also ignore the fact that the previous 5 years, 2019 included have been the hottest in recorded history. On and on and on - you ignore it all or call it just the "weather."

How has AGW impacted me? I live on an alfalfa farm located in the Four Corners region. We have been experiencing an on-going mega drought for the last 20 years or so. Most farmers around here have only been getting in two cuttings of hay. Before they get a chance to make that all important third cutting, the irrigation water runs out thanks to low reservoir levels in the face of severe drought. This year was a blessed exception and we got in that make or break third cutting. Alas, the drought is coming back - we haven't had any real precip out here for the past two months.

When I go up into the mountains, I am stunned by all the stands of dead forest. The pines and the firs are weakened by a lack of moisture combined with abnormally high temperatures. This leaves them susceptible to pine beetle which is enjoying a resurgence since their larva no longer get killed off by the mountain winter - our winters have become so warm that large numbers of pupa and eggs survive to infect the pines come spring.

Ridge after ridge of dead standing trees is heartbreaking - and dangerous. It is only a matter of time before Colorado will experience a "Paradise" forest fire of its own. But you just go on ahead believing that if 250 ppm CO2 is good, then 2,500 ppm is better. Exxon and the Koch brothers thank you for all your work on their behalf.

Venus has a lot of CO2, you'd love it there...go.

My dream of living in a much greener world has been advanced by the increase in CO2 levels...

Again one can ignore the fact that:

- Extreme events like Montana's record snow (funny how someone said that Montana will avoid Climate Change in a previous post), Europe's hot summers, and the Eastern USA's record heat have been increasing
- The military is legit concerned about climate change
- Over 90% of all scientists conclude that human-made climate change is a major factor
- Most countries across the world are concerned

I have been following the POC forum for about 1-2 years now. The OP is intelligent but they have appeared to let the craziness that is 2019 politics cloud their judgment.

I think I went bald quicker. That is certainly something which men have proven is worth spending many trillions on fixes for.

It has increased migration from third world countries, which has led to far-right movements around the world.

The military is being forced to deal with it by dems in Congress. Storms and their destruction on bases and ports is something they will have do deal with. That is a far cry from weighing in on what is causing them.

The DOD is not the best example, if anything, the worse example. They are legendary for wasting money on BS.
