I am honestly on the fence with regard to whether this is an impeachable offense. My first reaction was getting dirt on an opponent is just politics, it happens all the time.
But is it "getting dirt"? That conclusion requires several partisan inferences, above all the inference that Trump is seeking false information to use against Biden rather than simply a determination as to whether the state of affairs was such that Biden might have had a corrupt motive when he did what he bragged about. It is proper for the chief executive to review the actions of the executive branch to make sure they're on the up-and-up. It also requires the inference that it's a fishing expedition, which is false. There is one particular action by Biden, with respect to which the motive is unclear. And that's the extent of the investigation.
The conclusion that there's something wrong with Trump's request also seems to rely on a false presumption that there's something with getting information from a foreign government as opposed to other parties. There's not. There's no legal or moral distinction. Information is information; the moral issues are whether it is obtained legally (and obtaining information from foreign governments is perfectly legal, as long as they themselves obtained it legally) and whether it is true. Obviously, you would defend a candidate using lies against his opponent.
Which Democrats were screaming impeachment since he was elected? For the record, Mr. Mueller made it clear that his report does not exonerate Trump and the Russians did indeed meddle in the election.
Less than three months after Trump was elected (about 2 weeks after he took office), on Ferbtuary 3rd, 2017, Maxine Waters said (about Trump) that "my greatest desire is to lead him right into impeachment":
Correct. Biden's extortion of the Ukraine into firing the prosecutor investigating Burisma should be investigated. Trump's actions are legit. He's the head of the Executive Branch (under which falls the DOJ, FBI, etc.) and he was acting under authority of the Treaty with the Ukraine Bill Clinton signed into effect.
It's pretty obvious that there's a significant, majority faction of the Democrat Party, aided and abetted by the popular MSM who showed their colors on Election night 2016, that have sought any and all reasons possible to eliminate Trump since then.
IF so much time hadn't been spent proclaiming "Russian collusion" ...
or that he's been a Russia puppet ...
or Biden's son hadn't been so enriched in Ukraine from his Vice Presidency ...
and Biden himself didn't act to stop an investigation in Ukraine ....
AND Trump asked another head of state to dig up dirt on an unrelated opponent (ie, he was asking Ukraine to "dig up Ukrainian dirt" on Biden)
THEN absolutely, he deserves to be impeached and tossed out.
Fair enough.

From the top 7th floor that is, academia and Hollywood/pop-culture, look at that bias, and not see President Donald J Trump's fortitude and resolve?
