I'm not surprised. But people need to wake up to the new reality. Technology is more powerful than what most realize. We simply do not need that many workers to do tasks we'd need to get done. While at the same time, our population and the need for jobs keeps growing. We'd need to move beyond the thinking that our worth in society is what the big capitalism machine will compensate us at, assuming that our compensation costs less than a robot working 24/7.

All policy decisions such as the minimum wage, redefining the 40 hour work week, loosen regulations, does nothing except speed up or slow down this automation process. Eventually, robots just will do stuff more efficiently than we humans can.

And yet, one particularly ignorant political party wants to ensure a continuous flood of unskilled, uneducated people into this country...at the same time that (according to some) job opportunities for American citizens are plummeting. Go figure. It's almost like they want to harm Americans.

Must prevent the growth of the auto industry

Must prevent Y2K

Almost every generation feels the need to be short sighted and panic over growth, innovation, and the unknown.

The population is growing in the USA, and much of western society, due to immigration. Simple solution, stop letting in so many immigrants, and secure the borders to prevent illegal immigration. Then the impact of technology will not be something we are forced to fear.

Immigrants are not the issue. Even if you stop immigration completely, the birth rate is still greater than the death rate... meaning women are still having more than 1 child on average. Plus people are living longer.

All you're doing with it anyways is delaying the inevitable. Robots will take over a large proportion of the jobs regardless of immigrants or whatever.

So, you think most of the population will just sit around and stare vacantly at the equivalent of cat videos while robots do the work? What I find really creepy is the use of robots for taking care of the ailing or the elderly.

Of course, the word "robot" comes from the word for 'work." Did you know that?

Great reason to force other people to pay for your expenses!

It’s also known as slavery.
