Not sure why they called off the event just because the Police Chief and others decided they didn't want to be involved in what has turned into a Republican political event.
Seems like since the Republicans are so dedicated to good works, they would want to be sure and make this happen.

Leftist Democrats, typically Demonize all police, but will occasionally side with One that is anti-Republican. We see how wonderfully they handled the many incidences after "Black Lives Matter" events, that led to the massive increases in violence in Baltimore, Detroit, and Baltimore. Dems F-up everything they touch, now it's LA, SF, and Seattle. Yep, Free needles, people poooping in front of businesses, Sanctuary cities where foreign felons come back again and again. Just a thought, but it sounds like this fundraiser could have easily turned into a Republican and/or Trump rally.
Regardless of the political persuasion of any of the law enforcement officers, it would be a poor idea for them to be involved in a political rally during these touchy times.
Such things can go off the rails fairly fast. Some claim they showed up in Charlottesville to celebrate their glorious southern heritage. Then next thing they knew they were marching with people waiving swastikas, chanting Nazi slogans, and wanting to fight. Imagine their shock.
If this group wants to organize a fundraiser, then do that and leave politics out of it.
