Uh.. the appeals court granted Trump an injunction... Not sure what the OP is so happy about the "last stand", maybe OP doesn't know how the courts work...
People like the OP love judges who act on behalf of party and not the law.
Please tell me what law or rule makes releasing them mandatory.
There isn't any, whatsoever. But it's been traditional for presidents to do that. I gather, though, it doesn't bother you if Trump had some years in which he paid no taxes. For someone who lost so much money as a businessman, I suppose that wouldn't be much of a shock, though.
Can a President be prosecuted for criminal activity? That’s at the heart of the court fight. Most likely it will be determined by the SCOTUS
Actually, the Court ruling today addressed whether a President can be investigated. Trump's attorneys have argued that the President and his family and business partners all have absolute immunity from any type of criminal investigation by virtue of his holding office.

The IRS reviews tax returns, so if he didn't follow our tax laws, they decode how it will be prosecuted.
If you don't like our tax system which allows you to defer losses to future years, that's fine, but you'd have to be an idiot to ignore IRS rules that allow you to save millions by following those rules.
Its been shown Trump deflates the value of his real estate when it comes to taxes and inflates the value when he wants to borrow more money, usually from foreign banks because US banks do not trust him.
Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance’s wants the returns as part of a criminal grand jury investigation.
Trumps argument is he is protected by total immunity while in office.
The judge says“This Court cannot endorse such a categorical and limitless assertion of presidential immunity,” “The Court cannot square a vision of presidential immunity that would place the President above the law with the text of the Constitution.”
The judge says Trump can not be afforded the sort of absolute immunity other countries give monarchs and called that argument “repugnant to the nation’s governmental structure and constitutional values.”
I say, good for Judge Marrero. More people need to stand up for the constitution because Trump does not.
