True - most humans don't. As you may know, we incarcerate vastly more people than any civilized (if we can call ourselves that) country on the planet...and most uncivilized countries also. We win.
Tens of millions have been jailed for non-violent offenses. Do you enjoy paying 40-100K a year for each of these people to have ruined lives and "education" in crime from the really bad inmates?
We'd easily have a 50-60% reduction in prison population if we had decent reform.
The growth started under Reagan and ballooned until about....well, the Obama years...it went down for the first time in 100 years during the last 3 years of the Obama term and I think it is continuing to decline.
