More people are in private prisons now because more are available than 20 years ago.
Yes that too.

If we have to build a prison on every street corner to accommodate all them, so be it. I’d gladly pay more taxes to expand our network of prisons.

Whatever happened to “don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time”??
agreed

Tens of millions have been jailed for non-violent offenses. Do you enjoy paying 40-100K a year for each of these people to have ruined lives and "education" in crime from the really bad inmates?

We'd easily have a 50-60% reduction in prison population if we had decent reform.

The growth started under Reagan and ballooned until about....well, the Obama years...it went down for the first time in 100 years during the last 3 years of the Obama term and I think it is continuing to decline.

Crime rates are generally at historic lows.

Let's put it this way. The "America Was Great" times that many of you "conservatives" look fondly back upon had 200K in prison - not TWO MILLION.

In other words, in a general sense she is correct. But folks like you would point to a person who got out and killed someone and say "see?"....because you don't do your actual homework.
Burglars are usually non-violent. If your place of residence was burglarized, would you approve of the burglar being released in which he would probably continue his crimes?

If they ever free prisoners I hope they dump them in DC with the rest of the criminals.

This is what happens when you send a child to do a grown up's job.

Has she proposed abolishing the war on drugs and any other ficticious crimes against the state where there is no victim?

Now that is plain silly. They’ll be released only after they promise to never ever steal again.

Our prison system is a crime in itself, but she is a complete moron.

Our system was well underway long before Jim Crow.
