Japan and the US are apparently ready to announce a trade deal this weekend at the G7 meeting, which both President Trump and Japanese Prime Minster Abe will be attending. According to Japan's lead trade negotiator, Toshimitsu Motegi, the two leaders are expected to endorse the deal this weekend and the final deal should be finalized in September, which begins a week from tomorrow.

From the Japan Times:

Quote:
Japan, U.S. near trade deal: Motegi

Japan and the United States have agreed to the broad outlines of a trade agreement, Japan’s top trade negotiator, Toshimitsu Motegi, suggested Friday, as the two countries work to seal a deal by the end of September.

“We’ve been able to see major progress,” Motegi told reporters in Washington following a three-day meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer. Motegi also said gaps no longer exist in their views, apparently referring to tariff cuts in key sectors such as beef and automobiles. He did not provide further details. “These ministerial talks will probably be the last (toward a trade deal),” Motegi said.

The outcome of the talks will be endorsed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and U.S. President Donald Trump when they meet on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit, beginning Saturday in France, and an announcement will be made then, according to Motegi.
So the trade noose continues to tighten along the Chinese periphery.

Well done, President Trump.

So. 60 or 70 years after Japan subjected themselves to a world class ass-whuppin, they have become true and trusted partners in the civilized world.
If China wants to go that route ........

This is a unilateral aggreement vs Obama's globalist multi-lateral agreements. This is hugely different and unlike Obama's agreements, actually a good thing.

Yea, because having only one trading partner is so much better than having multiple trading partners.
