As a New Yorker, every time there is a shocked tabloid headline about someone being stabbed, or someone pouring water on a cop, I think, How great that the guy didn't have a gun.

So 1/5 of guns deaths happened in the last 3 years (2015 to 2017) since 1999? Not sure the OP nor the link provided has any clue what math is?

The point was specific to CA and NY not having a surge over the 3 year period, yes gun violence is down since the 90's but that's not the point. Glad to see you reading Wapo
