I wonder where the U.S. would fly 50 nuclear bombs though.
I know-that was sarcasm. It MAY have made sense 60 years ago when the USSR was a threat. It certainly didn't after 1989-and especially as Islamists gained power. Irresponsible to have left them there this long. But really-we still control the airbase and the bombs. Load them in a C-130 and fly them out.

I'm relieved to see troops removed from the Syrian border-and hopefully from the country. Trump has to move on cleaning up the mess Obama made in getting us involved in yet another civil war in the ME. Especially supporting the wrong side-Islamic fundamentalists vs the legitimate, secular government. Nothing there worth sacrificing an American life for.

NYT - Russian units now are patrolling parts of the zone vacated by American forces to keep the Turkish military and Assad’s forces separated. The Syrians appear to have won the race for Manjbi. The Kurds continue to fight on alone in other sectors to retain or regain territory.

The Turkish operation, unironically named “Peace Spring,” seeks to create a so-called “safe zone” in which one to three million Syrian refugees will be sent from Turkey. Most of these refugees are Arab, and thus even the official operation plan raises fears of demographic re-engineering. The border area is the most densely populated, including the largest city in the region, Qamişlo‎, and almost all major Kurdish-majority towns.

Listen up ..... this is a much bigger deal than what you are being fed by the media, and your position is extremely uninformed. I don’t blame you, or anyone else for being misinformed, because it is now far to clear that the media and deep state have spared no effort or expense to facilitate that outcome. Nevertheless, it is up to each individual to educate themselves, if they wish to be on the legitimate and just side of this internal war we are involved in, to which many are unconsciously fighting for the WRONG SIDE.

Our military involvement in the Middle East over the past 20 years is THE DISASTER .... not Trump’s decision to pull out 50 military advisors from Syria. Let me first remind all of you that many of the Trump critics and supposed foreign policy “experts” are themselves RESPONSIBLE for the aforementioned disaster, which has been on going for WAY TOO LONG. These are the people that brought us the ENDLESS Afghanistan war and US occupation .... the Iraq war over lies of WMDs .... the overthrow and destruction of Libya .... the Saudi war against Yemen... and now the ongoing effort to overthrow the Assad regime in Syria, costing TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS, and loss of life, FOR WHAT?

Let me also point out that there were no Islamic Extremists Terrorists operating in Iraq and Libya UNTIL our deliberate destruction of both countries.... Hussein and Qaddafi were both enemies of the Islamists. Now we have a virtual replay of events transpiring in Syria, as Assad has been under assault by US BACKED “Moderate Rebels” .... which, just so you know is simply the Orwellian twist of words that can ultimately be called what they really are .... ISIS, AL QAEDA, ISIL (Obama’’ favorite name form them), among many other euphemisms, with the ultimate goal of removing Assad, just as we did Hussein and Qaddafi. Yes, the hard cold truth is, contrary to the false narrative fed you .... it was ISIS that was being funded by and used as a US proxy for the overthrow of Libya. While feeding the American people a load of BS about fighting ISIS, we were actually funding them under the Obama-Clinton conspirators and traitors (Benghazi is a part of this story too). The only real opposition to ISIS came from the Syrian military and the Russians. That’s right, the god damned Russians were actually doing what the US was falsely claiming to do, and why, under Obama, the narrative painted the Russians as another enemy.... yet it was the Russians that were actually killing these blood thirsty ISIS animals in droves, as we secretly funded them.

Fast forward, and now Trump enters the scene. And he actually followed through on his campaign promises to defeat ISIS and subsequently worked with, rather than against the Russians in destroying ISIS forces, and now, is removing US personnel out of that to which we never should have been in the first place. This outrageous claim of betraying the Kurds is the same BS that’s been spewed about why we need to stay in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, etc. we shan’t leave Afghanistan because if we do, the Taliban will take over .... yada...yada...yada.... we cant leave Syria because ISIS will restore itself. READING BETWEEN THE LINES .... the “establishment” insists we need to stay in these countries FOREVER. No, we need to get out, and stay out. Let Assad and the Russians deal with their Terrorists, and if we don’t continue covertly funding them, the Syrians and Russians will extinguish them without our assistance.

As for Turkey.... they are a NATO member, and because of that, their militaristic aggression against the Kurds in Syria should be halted by NATO, unless of course it is the unadvertised desire of NATO to start WW III by allowing a NATO member to invade a Russian backed country.

Bottom line .... Orange Man is the good guy, not the bad guy. His position has always been to extricate the US from this endless militaristic regime change/nation building flawed foreign policy course we’ve been on for decades. It’s time the drooling masses of mouth breathers wake the F up, and recognize who the real enemy is here .... it’s the crowd of globalists -socialists - communists .... open borders, gun grabbers, and authoritarians who have done nothing the past three years except engage in Sedition and the overthrow of OUR elected president.

Relax! Dude. You'll die of high blood pressure.

Not to worry, the Russians have replaced the U.S. and all will be well.

So, the draft-dodging U.S. Commander-in-Chief blinked with Erdogan and handed over our Kurdish ally; just a blip on the red, white and blue screen, and his Saudi friends are stroking that wound now.

All will be well.

Believe, believe...

Great post,
The idea to remove Saddam seemed like a good idea at first - he was a war criminal, and he had weapons of mass destruction (although removed / destroyed by 2003)-- but it was executed terribly by Bush/Cheney etc and the entire situation has only gotten worse since then. "Moderate Rebels" should have been a George Carlin stand up routine -- there AREN'T ANY moderate rebels in that part of the world. These people have been killing each other since the dawn of time. Trump had the right idea -- enough is enough - pull the troops out of there and concentrate on AMERICA FIRST.

Best not to devolve into a rehashing of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East in this thread. Briefly:

1. First bold - there are three options: (1) no U.S. policy (hear no evil, see no evil, do no evil), (2) U.S. policy that is executed terribly (or hijacked by special interests, pick your poison), (3) U.S. policy that is not executed terribly. All too easy to advocate for option 1 or option 3 only to find oneself ending up in option 2 or discover that scenario 4 appeared on the scene (The Law of Unintended Consequences).

2. Second or third bold - Some toss around the idea there are secular regimes (including Assad) that behave responsibly on the world scene. You apparently would disagree. My comment is that early opposition to Assad came from protestors who did not take up arms for months up to the better part of a year. Assad to hold the support of the largely Alawite officer corp and other Syrian minorities portrayed protestors - many of which were Sunnis - as terrorists. Then to 'create' that terrorism released ISIS terrorists and allowed the formation of militias. Their actions he then used as justification to slaughter opposition. And so the Civil War began ...

The vast majority of the original "rebels" either fled the country or were killed, albeit with some numbers joining militias that over time became increasingly radicalized as they formed and re-formed.

In brief, Bashar al-Assad is not a nice man. And it was complicated.

Thanks. Let me state a couple things here as evidence that I hold no blind allegiance to a political party, but only to sound and just policy.

George Bush was a disaster, and the Bush family criminals on the same order as the Clintons. As for Saddam Hussein, he was installed by the CIA, and used as a US proxy against Iran. Whatever WMDs he may have had were provided to him by the US. He was ultimately double crossed by Bush Senior, who quietly gave him what Saddam thought was the green light to engage the Kuwaitis, but subsequently condemned and his military capability substantially destroyed in the first gulf war. He was set up by the Bush cabal, big time.

Our advertised Middle East foreign policy has no resemblance to the actual policies that have caused so much death and destruction ...... for example, Afghanistan is a classic .... the pretext was 911 and Osama Bin Laden (a CIA asset) whose family had close long standing ties to the Bush family. The real reason for our occupation was two fold .... an oil pipeline, and the protection of Afghanistan’s opium production that was almost eliminated by the Taliban. George Bush Sr was not nicknamed “Poppy Bush” because he was George Jr’s father. Bush Sr role in the world wide and very lucrative opium market ( making up about 90% of the world’s supply) was a well known secret, that no media mouthpiece would ever whisper aloud.
