I think the Democrats looked at the crop of presidential candidates running, saw that Biden was stumbling badly out on the trail, and Warren is essentially a more liberal Clinton and cannot win, and said "holy crap--we gotta damage Trump and dig up dirt asap."
I do think this scheme for an impeachment inquiry was done very sloppily, and Schiff in charge isn't sharp enough or crafty enough to lead such an endeavor, so the wheels are starting to come off the bus.
This will most likely backfire on the Democrats, and Trump's fighter spirit has the Democrats constantly on defense.

Republicans have one last chance to save themselves and their party, by turning Trump away in the primaries. In fact, they could save more than just themselves, as democrats need an opposition party that presents a strong counter-balance. Without opposition, the country would decline into chaos, with just a single, dominant party.

Yes, not sure how Trump supporters think this is good for Trump. Further, once Trump is gone, whenever that is, we should remember who the Trump supporters are. Nixon won reelection by a landslide. Twenty-one months later, he resigned.
