BTW the Declaration of Independence has nothing to do with the form of US government. At the time the DofA was written the form of the US government wasn't even decided upon yet.

Never said that. Neither are the Federalist Papers, but they both give insight into what is behind the Constitution and our form of REPUBLIC of STATES.

Why do you have such problems with dictionaries?

Perhaps it never occurred to you that a nation could be both a republic and a democracy.

[buzzer sound] America is guaranteed a republican FORM of government, which is not a "constitutional republic" nor synonymous with a republic. (People's Republic of China is a republic, but NOT a republican form)

Americans were tricked into embracing a socialist democracy in 1933, and an indirect democracy, in general in the 1820s. Whatever led them to believe a democracy was superior? There's nothing laudable about a majority legally persecuting a minority. (But party men gave "free beer" to get the new citizens to vote ! Never question "free beer".)

Under the promised republican form of government, all men have Creator endowed rights that governments were instituted to secure - you know - what is self-evident in the Declaration of Independence. Only those who consent to be governed are subjects to be governed. If you didn't consent, all government is authorized to do is adjudicate disputes, prosecute criminals, and defend against all enemies, foreign or domestic. Oh, and no endowed right can be taxed, regulated or infringed. Only government privileges can be taxed and regulated.

Thus Americans are split into sovereign people with endowed rights, and subject citizens without rights (abrogated by mandatory civic duties) by their consent to be governed.

The government, which is divided into three parts, relies on "democratic" enactment of legislation - except that a president can veto a bill. And as originally designed, only representatives were popularly elected. All other offices were chosen by undemocratic means.

I have NO problem with dictionaries. However, countries, including ours, are not governed by dictionaries.

We were debating the definition of a word.

Q: Is the US a "democracy?"

To determine that, you need a definition of "democracy." Definitions can be found in dictionaries. Duh.

You then look up the word in question in a dictionary and see if it applies to the US.

I looked up 3 dictionary definitions, and all 3 of them applied to the US.

So thus, according to 3 dictionary definitions, the US is a "democracy."

Even Ronald Reagan said the US was a democracy!

TEXT OF PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN’S WESTMINSTER ADDRESS
Quote:
The journey of which this visit forms a part is a long one. Already it has taken me to two great cities of the West – Rome and Paris – and to the economic summit at Versailles. There, once again, our sister democracies have proved that, even in a time of severe economic strain, free peoples can work together freely and voluntarily to address problems as serious as inflation, unemployment, trade, and economic development in a spirit of cooperation and solidarity.

...

Every American would, because this is- as we have been so eloquently told- one of democracy’s shrines.

...
In fact, he used the word "democracy" 17 times in that speech, often in reference to the US.

The word "democracies" also appears 6 times.

So as I said, even conservatives use the word "democracy" when speaking of the US!

All signs indicate that people will revolt, eventually, but the extreme rightwing will ally with government and the battle will be between patriots and fascists. Another Trump is inevitable, I'm afraid, and the next one is unlikely to be a blithering idiot like this one.
Exactly!; but it's not the "extreme rightwing" who saw the threat and elected Donald Trump as the lesser of two evils. It was a productive majority, under siege from a flood of politically-motivated illegal immigration and a growing underclass fueled by drugs, gang "culture" and welfare; that -- and the ignorance of over-sheltered "snowflakes", who should have been taught to know better.

Perhaps we're doomed to devolve into a continent full of sheep like Europe -- but I doubt we'll ever sink to the gutter tactics adopted by ANTIFA and the rest.
