An artist can request that their music not be used at rallies and their requests are generally agreed to.
i've always been curious if or when a band/artist's rights over-ride a BMI/ASCAP license.
but in the case of prince's music it's a moot point. the campaign already agreed to never play his music. the estate published the letter from the campaign's lawyer:
Pathetically sad that you have to use music of a band/estate that has asked you not to.......you can't find a band/musician that supports you worth playing -- lol.
I'm sure Ted Nugent would play for him live.......
There was another song played that the band objected to - not an estate an actual band.......can't remember what it was.
multiple. the rolling stones, bruce springsteen, neil young and beyonce are among the artists that have directly asked the campaign not to use their music.
Prince's estate doesn't like the use of his music by Trump.
Too bad! Prince is dead! No say in the matter, Trump will play whatever he feels like playing.
Prince's estate has enough money.
By the way I'm a Prince fan -- maybe the best overall musician we've ever seen.
Look. I get it. You love trump and everything he does. He's like some weird kind of man-god to you.
But in reality, he can't just steal artists music to use at his rallys, for his commercials, to promote himself, etc... without that artists permission. Unfortunately for him, there are very few popular artists that will grant him that permission.
Why doesn't he just use Kanye's songs? Is it because his base (or more likely him) is uncomfortable with being associated with rap music?
