[A]The AR-15 is clearly the deadliest, most powerful weapon ever invented by man.
[b] You pass a background check for a gun …..
[A] is patently false: atom bomb? Everything else you say must be held suspect. (I know what you're trying to say, but sloppy language detracts from your credibility.)
And [b] assumes all criminals are following the laws-- a contradiction in terms. This is why all gun regs are unnecessary & ineffectual: only law abiding citizens will follow them, and they don't need them.
The reason we need high capacity clips is because the govt has them. The govt must fear the people, not the other way around. The current situation in Hong Kong could never happen here. We have our limits to the abuse we'll tolerate from our govt, and we can fight back.
And here we go with the sporting rifle defense. When Colt firearms produced this weapon it was marketed internationally as a military firearm. You can probably take any variation of the assault rifle world wide fire it semi auto and call it a sport/ hunting rifle.
Every type of firearm ever produced were originally use by the military.
Muskets.
Single shot.
Revolvers.
Bolt action.
Shotguns.
Semi automatics.
All of them have been used by the military and civilians.
Doesn't mean anything at all, except that gun grabbers could call just about any type of weapon "military grade".
In 100 years , they'll be calling laser rifles "military grade".
I don't know, the 475 Limbaugh came up in another thread about magnums. I had never heard of it, but a poster claimed that it was more powerful than even a magnum.
We always get into these debates over technical nomenclature in these threads. "Clip" is the normal term used in common parlance. You can see it in any TV show or movie. These are people paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to choose their words carefully. I will leave it to these experts to determine the differences between these technical terms.
It's not called a "Limbaugh". It's called a LINEbaugh. It's a revolver. "Clip" is NOT the "normal term" if you know anything at all about firearms. NO ONE who knows jack all about firearms says 'clip'. Hollywood is not the yard stick to use on "knowing anything about firearms".
I've been shooting since I was 6 years old. I've been around so many different types of rifles and handguns, have been trained on both - I know more about firearms than useless, pedophile infested Hollywood.
The AR-15 is clearly the deadliest, most powerful weapon ever invented by man. So if someone makes it a 'boogie man,' they would be justified. Only the 475 Limbaugh might be more powerful, but does not hold as many bullets in its clip.
I read most of the article, and do not understand why they could not prosecute this guy. The issue of 'upper' vs. 'lower' did come up in another thread. From what expert posters said, the upper is totally unregulated under the law. That is not right! You pass a background check for a gun with a particular level of power. If you wish to 'upper' that level, you should have to go through another background check.
In an effort to help educate you I would like to point out that the AK47 and it's many variants see more global proliferation than the ubiquitous Ar15.... Do a little research as mentioned in the past the internet can be a useful tool....

Yep
The AR and AK are just the tip of the iceberg as far as semi auto rifles are concerned. I have a PSL, SAR 8 (rebadged HK)just to name a couple. One is based on a machine gun receiver and one has an odd side charging handle.
As the articles states the law was poorly written and to prosecute this guy means a higher court would have to throw it out based on the way the law was written. Which would have meant a serious run on 80% lowers since that means it would be a legal, untraceable firearm in all States.
That is how I interpret it. I could be wrong.
The way the law is written, the receiver holds the trigger, bolt and provides a location for the barrel to be screwed or pressed into. The AR-15 is really a "split" receiver. The upper receiver holds the barrel and the bolt while the lower receiver with the serial number, holds the trigger. Neither meets the definition of a receiver so neither is under the jurisdiction of the ATF.

So basically you said you don't know s#!t about guns and should just ****.

So an AR-15 is more powerful than a MOAB, nuclear bomb, CIWS or 20 MM cannon? It is NOT more deadly than even the M-240 or M-60 which can fire thousands of much bigger rounds. The AR-15 is 5.56mm round, there are many 7.62mm and many other even more powerful rounds and guns that use these can hold as many as an AR-15. I assume you really meant 475 Linebaugh (there is no 475 Limbaugh) - that is not designed for same use as AR-15.
An 80% lower requires machining to make a gun, under federal law if go past 80%, it needs to be treated as a gun. An upper by itself is not a gun under federal law. An upper and lower make 1 gun, but even if added to items needed for background check, you would not have to go through another background check just as you don't have to if you buy more than 1 gun at the same time.
