It’s talks a lot about being drunk, and when I lived there, we went to Football games and drank- drinking is 24/7 in those large German mugs - I left that state and never returned - but teenage drinking was a huge problem. Folks just can’t seem to live with out being buzzed somehow. I drink on occasion so not totally Puritan - but deal with the booze before attacking the weed.
They sound straight outta the Victorian ages, when women were forbidden from reading romance novels because they opened their minds to wickedness and lust.
According to members of the Pennsylvania GOP, "the Word of God makes a clear connection between drugs and the occult, implying that the unwise use of certain recreational drugs can lead to having the minds of the users open to wickedness and demonic activity." Nevermind the fact that the Bible doesn't mention marijuana, period. Yet, Republicans always find Biblical justification for their tyrannical authoritarian impulses even if it requires taking verses drastically out of context.
This is why despite soaring support for legalization of weed, I believe we are still likely a good 15-20 years from it becoming a reality. The Christian Right controls the Republican Party and they will never allow it to happen.
Something is wrong in this country that despite two-thirds of Americans supporting legalization, the views of pastors and staunch authoritarian traditionalists are the only views that matter.
It's not the PA GOP - it's pastors that live in PA. Did you happen to take a poll on the party leanings from these pastors as many these days are very liberal. What the article talked about was one pastor and his views - I'm sure he doesn't speak for all of them - unless you've interviewed everyone of them too to get their opinion.
I liked smoking pot when I was younger the few times I had it - I got tired, hungry and had no inhibition. Like getting drunk on alcohol - you tend to loosen up - maybe a bit too much. If people want to use it recreationally - let them but then have the same enforceable laws that we see for alcohol

... and yet the conservative Christians continue to support Trump, who is wicked and demonic. Go figure.
