According to members of the Pennsylvania GOP, "the Word of God makes a clear connection between drugs and the occult, implying that the unwise use of certain recreational drugs can lead to having the minds of the users open to wickedness and demonic activity." Nevermind the fact that the Bible doesn't mention marijuana, period. Yet, Republicans always find Biblical justification for their tyrannical authoritarian impulses even if it requires taking verses drastically out of context.

This is why despite soaring support for legalization of weed, I believe we are still likely a good 15-20 years from it becoming a reality. The Christian Right controls the Republican Party and they will never allow it to happen.

Something is wrong in this country that despite two-thirds of Americans supporting legalization, the views of pastors and staunch authoritarian traditionalists are the only views that matter.

Church potlucks probably destroy more people more than dope smoking. But you may have a point. Dope smoking before church potlucks may make it way worse.

I am not a bible scholar, but even I know that the Bible actually does mention cannabis, although indirectly.

Genesis 1:29 - And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Genesis 9:3 - Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

green herb... meat... ? Most regular translations say plants and food. What translation is that?

KJV. In the church I grew up in, the KJV 1611 was the only acceptable translation to use and all others were perversions.
