Trump's insistence that he just wants foreign countries to tackle “corruption” is absurd. His lawbreaking is all about smearing a political opponent whom he fears. He is lying and lying and lying which most of us have come to expect. Why folks still fall for it, remains baffling.
Here is a classic example of his lies and how it took only 1 question following the president's diatribe to reveal that Trump is gas-lighting his followers. On the WH lawn a couple of weeks ago: “I don’t care about Biden’s campaign, but I do care about corruption,” “I believe there was tremendous corruption with Biden ... we are looking at corruption, we are not looking at politics.”
Trump went as far as to insist “this is about corruption” or a close variant of that statement six times in less than 40 seconds. ( this repetition is a tell of his as well as it is his MO taken from the Stalin and Goebbels playbook)
All it took, however, was one question from a reporter to destroy Trump's talking point.
“Have you asked foreign leaders for any corruption investigations that don’t involve your political opponents?” Trump could not provide even 1 instance. He rambled on and on and totally dissembled, but he could not provide a single solitary example.
Trump’s and your insistence that he’s really just concerned about corruption is hard to buy. Trump is arguably the most personally corrupt president in the history of the United States and the notion that he’s suddenly become a principled anti-corruption crusader is absurd.
His "perfect call" never even mentioned the word corruption. Never.
Your post is one of Trump's absurd talking points. This talking point is part of Trump's and the GOP’s effort to make people believe he didn’t in fact try to turn American diplomacy into an opposition research arm of his 2020 campaign, but don’t be fooled: Trump's actions were a blatant political ploy, and he broke the law. Trump, the most corrupt POTUS ever is concerned about corruption.
One reporter's question destroyed Trump's talking point as I previously mentioned and your defense is useless as well.
The memo about the July phone call between Trump and Zelensky, that the White House released, also indicates Trump’s new talking point is nonsense.
During that call, the word “corruption” was never uttered. Instead, Trump suggested military aid to the country was contingent on Zelensky doing him a “favor,” and he then brought up his desire to see investigations opened into the Bidens and the origins of the Mueller investigation.
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, its a duck!
You can buy what Trump is selling but as a prominent Republican has stated: " When the only American citizen President Trump singles out for investigation is his political opponent in the midst of the Democratic nomination process, it strains credulity to suggest that it is anything other than politically motivated."
Trump has rolled out a number of other defenses of his impeachable offense, including:" his 2016 win means he can do what he wants", "Democrats are really to blame", " the whole scandal should be dismissed because it is a witch hunt". All reveal his flailing and indefensible sell-out of "we the people".
But once again, Trump’s insistence that he’s really just concerned about corruption is especially hard to buy and I'd stop peddling it if I were you.
See below for a transcript of that call. You should have read it. I sourced it from an outlet you probably prefer.
