Good to see traditional family values still big in first world asia. The tax system benefits housewives, even ones with part time jobs, by not taxing them if they make below a million a year.
There is nothing wrong with being a housewife, especially if that is your choice.
I was a housewife stay at home Mom, while I raised my Son. It was actually way harder (but way more rewarding) than any paid outside job that I ever did. My Husband always worked, and had a good job, so we had a choice in the matter. Not everyone does.
I don't think women should feel forced or compelled to be a housewife though, it should be a choice. Some people would probably be miserable being one.

And perhaps if the same was true here, more women would feel safe about being housewives. There is no social safety net for a woman raising a kid by herself.
Most ordinary women in the US have seen, time and again, the negative results of pinning your economic life to a man. Not because men are naturally bad people, they're not. With the best intentions in the world, men lose their jobs, get sick, injure themselves, and/or die before they ever get old. If women don't want to be broke, we had damn well better get an education, and stay in a career long enough to establish solid credentials.

Its also similar to being dependent on employment for health care. If a person is dependent on anyone for survival, there is a great disparity of power. And whenever there is disparity of power, abuse of power is almost bound to happen.

Japan has already suffered what we have not; the lie of the feminist agenda as being terrible for society. When we are in as dire straights as they are; maybe it will point to the obvious:
That the traditional female's role was never less than that of a man's & that the hand that rocks the cradle; truly does rule the world.

Nothing in the links said anything like close to all young women in Japan want to be housewives. The article gave one persons reasons why women would want to be housewives or SAHMs. Similar reasons as to why many women leave the work force when they have kids in the US. Because women do most of the housework and childcare, childcare issues and expense, all those things make working full time not financially or emotionally feasible.

Funny US society never acknowledged that in practice. For centuries traditional female roles were downplayed and seen as unimportant, inferior and women were even seen as evil. Traditional females did not rule the world, the government, the business world nor the household. Women, couldn't vote, own property, get a credit card............................

And of course there are still bosses who claim, with a perfectly straight face, that the receptionist is the most important person in the office.
